Subject: Question about army color in tournament and casual games

Disbeliever of the Greater Good

I just started playing 40K and saw that the Tau codex has some very specific color schemes listed in the back. I wanted to know if was acceptable or not in tournaments and just casual games for your armies to be painted different colors than the normal ones.
(Im sorry if this belonged in Da Rulez, i couldnt really tell which one this belonged in)

The player is in fact encouraged to come up with their own color schemes .
I have my own Order of Sisters with custom colors.

The Laws of Thermodynamics:
1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.

some TOs might have a minimum color rule to consider an army painted, though (poor BT players)

From what I've seen your models can be painted however you want in tournaments, as long as you follow WYSIWYG. As for casual games, I ran the DA from DV as CSM when I first started, and nobody cared. Casual games are whatever you and your opponent agree on, and contrary to what you'll read on this website, no well-adjusted person really cares about how your models look as long as it doesn't get in the way of fun, which is pretty rare unless you have swastikas all over your tanks which can cause some controversy. In fact, a lot of people play with gray, unpainted models. Is it ideal? No. Everybody prefers to play against well-painted models, but that's not always feasible. But if you just started and are working on your army, people won't really care in casual games. And if you come up with your own conversions/paint schemes that are cool, that just makes the game all the more enjoyable for most.
It's important to note that in tournaments though, painting is an important factor in your overall rankings, along with sportsmanship.

Tournament rules are traditionally "three colors" minimum. So primary color, secondary color, and highlight color does that trick; think regular tau. Primary brown, secondary black, highlight color(s) gold and white.

Paint them how you like, there yours so feel free to paint them purple, pink, gold or neon green if you so with.
Long as they don't,r have something like as runes, swastikas or general offensive imagery its not a problem, n even with BT 3 colour is not hard, I have black, white with gun metal and gold detailing. That's 4 colours simply done.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all. |

As above, paint it how you like but keep in mind "accurate" unit markings and so on if possible. Locations, designs etc.
