So I know a fair few folks here on Dakka work at or own hobby shops, game stores, GW stores, or what have you, so this is a question for them and the folks who talk to them a lot. How have GW's staggered releases been treating you, as opposed to the monthly releases before? Has it been harder to keep things in stock? Have sales been up, down, or the same? Has White Dwarf Weekly moved at all? I'm curious to know how this approach is going for GW and their products. History has shown that when things aren't working GW will change them, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, so it'd be interesting to see if this release schedule is here to stay or just a flash in the pan.

The flgs has given up trying to stock the new GW relesses. They stock gw, but the reslse scedual favors GW's online and brick stores.
They have stopped supporting the warhammer community GW undermines and focus now on warmachine and FOW.

My FLGS has pulled the extra 5% off club members used to get on GW stuff and while they still get the new stuff they don't get much and the shelves are starting to look pretty bare.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

I know the gw stores suffer a little when the staff member takes holiday, now that the shops close it means week where you can't get the new stuff.
In my mind one of the biggest reasons to shop at a gw store is convenience, if you have to wait a week for the manager to return then why not just order online
Not that the managers don't deserve holiday, they just deserve a little support to do so

To me it seems they are trying to drive up online sales since they make more profit off of it. To bad they are throwing everyone under the bus to do it.

My LGS has been running sales on 40k and Fantasy kits and they rarely run sales. I also didn't see anything for the last wave of IG items (Commissar, Ogryns, ect.) though maybe they all sold out before I got to the shop but I kinda of doubt it. Overall it seems that they are scaling back what GW items they carry while stocking other games like Deadzone, Bolt Action, FoW, and of course Warmahordes.

One local store brings in one or two of each new release and then does special orders only. The other four or five stores stopped carrying GW quite a while ago.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

On store in my area stocks a semi-decent amount of stuff, but nothing remotely "old." If a codex has been out for more than three months they have nothing.
Right now it's all Nids and IG, with a few unsold kits sprinkled in.
The smaller stores have nothing and have turned their attention to X-Wing and board games in the areas they used to stock GW products.

My LGS just has a giant pile of unpurchased GW stuff going as far back as Dreadfleet and it grows every week. I'm not sure the poor owner knows what to do anymore.

My FLGS is still ordering things on a monthly basis de facto. Granted, it's like one of two in Turkey and the owner is pretty much constantly annoyed at GW. One way or the other, I talked to him the other day and he says that they have about $750k worth of GW product in stock, which is pretty big considering the size of the community here.
Overall, he's been taking more and more specific orders from customers and focusing less and less on having a couple of everything because GW games are overall dropping in popularity in these parts. A few shelves formerly reserved for 40k have been given over to Infinity, which seems to reflect that the community overall is playing.

Mine seems to be going towards a minimal stock and ordering stuff in. They are currently offering a deeper discount on orders paid up front.
I'm wary about paying up front for special orders now since GW seems to be getting pretty bad at sending stuff (I've been waiting on some Dwarf boxes from a couple of weeks before the Army Book was released), though they are nothing like as bad as Battlefront (where I've been waiting 9 months)
