Subject: OFFICIAL Arcane Factories - Launching on Kickstarter
Hi members of Dakka Dakka, Justin from Arcane Factories here to pitch to you our upcoming Kickstarter project.
Our goal is to provide gamers with a selection of exciting, beautiful miniatures to bring to the table. We have a selection of fantasy, steampunk, sci-fi and gothic horror themed miniatures to chose from, as well as plans to sculpt some large demons, mecha and monsters.
As a fellow wargamer, I've occasionally been frustrated with the quality of models presented in some of the more popular gaming systems, and have always wanted to create my own miniatures that are visually interesting and tell a better narrative. Luckily for the Arcane Factories crew - most of us are from the VFX industry - we make movies, tv shows, cartoons and video games, and now we're applying all the skills we acquired from those areas to the tabletop scene.
Personally, I love the hobby. It was always great to be able to step away from the monitor after work and watch my armies come to life, and I'd put that little bit of extra effort into the special characters to make them a little bit different from the norm. Hopefully you guys can see some of that passion to push the envelope in our designs.
If you guys have any questions about Arcane Factories, our designs, our sculpting process, you can check us out at http://www.arcanefactories.com/.
Also, our Facebook page is pretty active, and we post lots of updates there, along with sneak peeks of concept art, and interviews. We've also been running competitions and giveaways on our Facebook page, listening to feedback from our friends and fans as to which miniatures will make our final lineup for our Kickstarter. It's an open contest, and if you like our designs, I would humbly urge you to go and vote so your favorite designs wind up in our lineup! https://www.facebook.com/ArcaneFactories
Thanks for taking a look, and thank you very, very much for your support!
Love the 3D sculpts. Now, if you guys will just have those mastered as prototypes, and professionally painted up, it'll be great to see what can be done with your miniatures.

Lovely work, I've been interested to see what you'd be offering since CC Jeremy mentioned your upcoming KS in one of the Google+ hangouts he's been doing.
Sadly, it looks like I won't be backing, metal models are a pain to work with and store.

Metal isn't my favorite material to work with, but I can't put my casting prejudices aside depending upon pricing and what you have available initially.
Will keep my eyes peeled for anything vaguely reptilian.
Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
I'd really like to know more and see the sculpt of this.....guy?

Yeah, that's exactly the one I'm thinking of Theophony. But so far, the digital sculpts seem to be of human-sized models... I would really like to see if they can convert the art of one of these sweet monsters into a similar digital sculpt.

Just finished up an interview with Michael from Painting Buddha, where I address some of your questions here -
. Sorry about the technical difficulties towards the end.
But just to highlight what I said in the show as to regards to our sculpting - we have a bit of a sneak peek here of War and Famine that we started on. These pictures are in a very early stage where we've just begun to block out the general shapes.
We also have a painted pre-production version of Bertha for you. Yes, we will be re-casting her with additional weapons and maybe different head options.
Enjoy!

The big gribbly monsters shown in the art aren't part of it, and don't look to be for a long time. Also, the pledge levels and addition of parts to models looks a Lot like Creature Caster's campaign... it makes sense to take inspiration from it, but I don't really see enough to make me go in for this one.
The team listed on the KS page is absolutely huge, but I can't tell who is really involved as you couldn't pay all those people... by contrast, Creature Caster is just one very, Very experienced guy. The experience here seems to be broad but not specific to wargaming.
Best of luck with it, though, and I'll certainly be watching for those gribbly things and to see how your resin casts turn out (which I assume you would be outsourcing casting, since that isn't mentioned in the background of the team that I saw).

OK look, I appreciate the effort to provide scale pics, but for the love of all that's holy, can companies stop posting comparison pictures where all the models are on different types of bases with different scenic bits on them? It kind of defeats the purpose.

We actually friends with Jeremy Glen from Creature Caster. We meet up regularly to discuss models, designs and various Kickstarters and wargaming tidbits over coffee, so yes you can say our Kickstarters both look very similar in layout.
The art team is huge, yes. We're all friends, pitching in time after work to design things. The more experienced eyes on our designs the better, and since we're covering 4 different disciplines - fantasy, sci fi, gothic horror and steampunk, it's always great to have multiple people look over the designs and to bounce creative ideas around.
This is a labour of love and of the many faces you see there, only 3 of us are doing this "full time". We may not have Jeremy's creds in the miniature industry but all of us have the chops in the VFX industry and games industries. We're simply trying to transfer our skills over the the miniature market.
If you have any more questions, I'd be more than happy to answer as many of them as I can.
At the time of writing this post, we're almost halfway there! Awesome! Thanks everyone who has pledged so far! We're going to try to post up WIP sculpts of the Angel of Death model tomorrow.
Cheers!

I appreciate the response, but I do find it odd that you launched with such a similar format in the last few days of his campaign if you guys are indeed friends.
Regardless, I hope you do well... this will be, as you say, your first foray into the miniatures realm, but in some ways that is what Kickstarter is for! So, best of luck

Nice looking concept art, not my style though for minis. I'll keep an ye on it to see if the centipede creature shows up though.
