Signed up, it's free and I like chess so what the hell. At the very least, I'm interested to see where this goes, and if they just port chess over or actually change anything (to be honest, I hope the former)

It's probably both really, a straight chess adaptation with fancy pieces and then specialist methods of playing chess.

Finally GW comes out with a balanced version of 40K.

Yeah, like I said earlier, it's really curious how good the graphics are looking in this if what we've seen is any indication. Just makes me wish that much more for a 40k game with a good budget again, since we could get graphics like those with gameplay to match. This should still be fun, but, well, it's chess.

I really like all of the kill animations, they're quite well done. Perhaps this may be something I can pick up for my iPhone?

Makes me really wish this was a full game, I think this game has the look of the Space Marines and Orks down really well. They all look nicely imposing.

It will likely be more than three dollars, sorry. We're planning a cross-compatible mobile version of the game, but it certainly is not being developed as a mobile game. The pickup by excited mobile review sites has distorted that perception somewhat, but yes - you will likely be playing Regicide on you iPad in the future.

$14.99 is our planned launch price, but that's TBD.
Platform for initial launch is PC, because nothing screams 'master race' like the Imperium of Man.
Cross platform is intended to be totally integrated when platform supprt expands, all the way down to being able to resume saved games on different devices as long as you are logged into the same game account.

No Day 1 DLC. Aside, surely that would be crazy for a development phase launch.
You've indulged in subjectivity for that last question, so I'll break it down. Content without value is not worth anything. I'm a writer. I'm currently working with several Black Library authors to develop campaigns for multiple chapters so that our factions are not just 'M and Ms' - different coloured sweets that taste the same - when we explore different chapters/clans etc. It's possible that we'll sell these 'stories' at around the price of a Black Library digital novella - that is, a few bucks. If that sounds gakky, stick to the core game.

I threw in for the t-shirt+game combo. I figure I usually drop 15-20 on tshirts, so a little coin for some new 40K stuff to stave off boredom while on the road. I like chess, I like 40K, I like dakka.. for 10 bucks, why not.
