probably not much. But it will depend on how they rule things like sternguard. If they get the objective secured rule with pedro then nope. Also being able to protect objectives from people is pretty significant, especially if going first.
If people stick to the low number of troops they have been it means that they have to kill my troops off objectives instead of just contesting them.

I think it will change the dynamic for many armies quite a bit. It'll be quite a change because, in a Bound army, troops will be the best thing to 'attack' with because they can contest objectives from other troops, and steal them from non-'objective-secure' units. Whereas it might be better to hold objectives on your own home turf with non-troops.

Why would you use non-troops for home objectives? Troops are usually the cheapest units in the game.

Because your long range tanks/artillery can claim them, allowing your troops with small arms to be in a more suitable range band.

I'm planning on fielding a 1500 point army with 120 guardsmen. That's going to look exactly the same as it did since the last codex Automatically Appended Next Post: Nightlord1987 wrote:Hmmm... No more lawn chair units?

Unbound can never contest battle forged regardless of who is troops..
Battle forged non troops can never contest battle forged troops.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

My understanding is that battle forged armies gain a special ability for their troop choices which makes them incontestable by anything without that special rule. This only applies to troops, so I don't think your first statement is correct schadenfreude.

Correct, except unbound also gains a special rule that states they can't contest against anything in a battle forged army.

It's probably not going to make much difference for the average army, since super-scoring troops are still extremely valuable and all the other scoring units pretty much cancel out. Each player will probably hold more objectives, but it probably won't make much of a difference in strategy outside of maybe moving your non-troops units a bit differently so they're in range for objective grabs.
The real difference is going to be for theme armies that don't want to take more than minimum troops. Now my fluffy IG armored company can score with its tanks, so I can play an all-tank army instead of having to include infantry just to have a chance of winning the game without tabling my opponent.

Right, the interesting fights will be the battle forged vs. unbound games. The former just has to get to an objective and survive. It doesn't need to clean out whatever the other guy puts up. So marine tactical squads that are far more survivable than they are good at killing the other guy just got a bit more useful (along with any other unit that can stay alive but isn't all that scary when it comes to actually killing things).

I might actually take havocs now, since they'll actually be able to hold back field objectives. Also might take terminators. Being able to deepstrike into an area of the board and actually claim it sounds amazing. I know if an enemy troop squad comes near they can steal it out from under me, but approaching a squad of chaos terminators is not something most basic troop squads want to do.

Went back to the video and I couldn't find anything to confirm any unbound v battle forged interactions.
I found another gem. Dedicated transports are troops if their units are troops. Chimera, rhinos, and drop pods can be superscoring. Also get ready to throw up in your mouth a little bit. Wave serpents going flat out like jetbikes while jinking for a 2+ or 3+ cover save with holofields depending on if going flat out adds a +1 to jink that stacks with holofields.

My master or ordnance can now ignore cover when ordered. Wave serpents shall fall by the dozen.

AP3 can no longer explode vehicles, all it can possibly do now is immobilize or strip HP. Ignore cover is only -2 to it's jink save.

Combine them with a well-balanced flying DP, and you have yourself something that can turn around an entire horde

I think mech vets will turn out to be better than psyker/priest blob IG in this edition - scoring transports and if -2bs snap shooting is true it means I can move 12 inches in a Chimera with my vet squad and still fire a lascannon twice as effectively as I can now. Some Russes to hold down the middle of the table, and vets zooming around to make good on those objective cards. No more parking lots!

An assault blob can be more mobile with charges, absorb more damage, and drive an opponent from an objective more effectively. Bullgryns also get far more useful. Rather than Vets, I'm actually considering Tempestus in Taurox Primes, since they're fast transports with move through cover and re-roll dangerous terrain. A full Tempestus army, half deep striking, half in Tauroxes, seems like it has potential.
