Since I use brettonian heads for my guardsmen, the rank and file grunts dont get eyes as the wide brim of their helmets hide their faces anyways. Officers, characters, sergeants, and command squad members generally do though. I use a bleached bone instead of white and dot the irise with a 0.1mm marker.

I find that I lack a brush small enough to paint naked eyes. I can do helmet eyes all day long no problem but naked eyes are just such a pain in the ass for me because I lack the fine brush. Thought about using a toothpick but meh.... I need to paint my Mephiston's eyes...they are fleshy right now lol!

Back in the dark ages, when I was just a poor kid using crappy brushes for most of my work, I twisted small scraps of paper towels into fine points and used them for eyes and other detail work. Now my paint jobs were pretty crummy back then, so YMMV, but it worked for me at the time.

And hey, it’s basically free.

I try to do just a little white dot inside the eye socket. I know I'm not good enough to do a realistic eye (and few things look worse on a model than a badly painted eye), but leaving them unpainted is no good.

I find them quite hard to paint, so I either just use a dark wash to shade the area, or I will try to do it with a lighter colour than the base.

Pupils always end up looking terrible for me.

I wash the whole face after a flesh colour and leave it at that.

Yes I paint them, all black because I like how they look.

Depends. On Cadians, who have really squinty eyes, I just shade them in. I like the impressionist effect it gives making them look like background characters.

On models with more open eyes I paint them. I go for the "line of black on white" technique.

I rarely bother. Some of my character models have the eyes done properly, most of my models don't. On the tabletop it only makes a difference if you make a mess of the eyes, then it becomes obvious.I have a couple of models with white, a coloured iris, and black pupils, but it takes ages and nobody notices. I'd rather put the time and effort into other things.

I try to do a white eye with a different colored iris for characters, since I think it adds a lot of personality.
But if I'm really messing it up to the point that the repainted flesh around the eye is starting to get thick enough to notice I'll normally give up.

Depends on the model, I rarely paint space marines without helmets but on the ones that do have naked eyes, I tend to just do the basecoat of the head, any layer colors for skin, white base on the eyes, then just put a wash over everything. Details on eyes are a bastard to paint for me, but I can get away with it because it's Chaos, my dudes don't need pupils. They can have creepy white eyes.
