Just got a look at the new rulebook and from what I can tell, swarms are now scoring. It says nowhere in the Swarms entry or in the scoring units section that they're not.

Nurglings just got interesting, Daemon players can now spend a grand total of 90 points on their mandatory troops and everything else on flying destruction, woohoo! Not to mention your Nurglings can infiltrate themselves right on top of an objective. Oh sweet glorious GW why do you do this to me, I want to hate you but then you bring me chocolates and flowers.

since everything is scoring now, I hardly think its going to make a difference anymore.

It does make a difference. The reason I pointed this out was because in 6th, the Swarms USR specifically states that swarms are not scoring, which made Nurglings terrible. And not everything in 7th is scoring. Zooming fliers are not scoring, for example.

The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to think Nurglings just became top tier. For 45 points, you get 9 wounds of infiltrating, scoring troops with shrouded. That sounds amazing to me. For under 300 points you can bring a full compliment of six Nurgling squads who infiltrate on objectives and are relatively durable in cover. Their bane is templates/str 6 mass shooting, but if my opponent bothers to waste that kind of fire power on six different units that cost less than 300 points total, that sounds like a pretty awesome deal to me. It's a win-win.

Nurglings are now almost strictly better than cultists, and I expect to see Nurgle daemons players making the shift from plaguebearers. IMO they are now better than any other daemon troop besides Daemonettes who can actually hit hard, but even then I think any daemons list can make room for a 45 point unit of Nurglings. Heck, they're shaping up to be one of the best troop choices in the game.

true, for the most part, but IIRC troop selections gain some special rule where their objective cant be contested? I'm fairly sure that a few codices have swarm units as scoring

are you going to keep talking about it, or do something already?

except troops choices are usually weaker than other FoC units, so they generally tend to get wiped out on a 1 on 1, and thus their special rule is hardly worth anything.

A hellhound or eradicator kills all of your nurglings for a third of the cost. Just saying.

I prefer horrors going to ground or Plaguebearers who don't go splat if sneezed on by a wave serpent or easily spammed Eradicators.

As others have said, everything is scoring now. Consider the Troops a tax and that´s all. The cheaper the better, to save points for killy things.

So it applies to anything. For instance, Termagants are 40 points.

Missing the point but I'll repeat why I like them and why I think this matters:

1) Swarms used to NOT be scoring, no matter what, and would still be if the Swarms rule hadn't changed.
2) It's more relevant for battleforged lists, because of the Objective Secured rule for troops. Besides, if unbound lists begin ganking battleforged troops so hard as you're suggesting, how long do you think people are going to be playing against unbound with battleforged before they realize it's broken and stop doing it?

Still applies to Termagants and Rippers (another swarm for 39 points).

I was not talking about Unbound. Please correct me if I am wrong, but everything scores now in both Unbound and Battleforged, so you can get a lot of killy stuff and still score. And you need it because there are a lot of new objectives changing on the go. So you need fast units to get that objective now, and killy units to kill than enemy model now, and so on. I am nor sure about why do you need to waste points on Troops anymore. It is a game-changing rule, affecting all armies.

I am not saying you are not right. You are right. I am just pointing out this applies to all Troops in all armies: the cheaper the better. Troops are second class units now.

Objective secured is a pretty big deal, though. And three swarm bases are not exactly super hard to hide.

I think the meta will gravitate towards being pretty troop heavy, because a lot of armies can muster some fairly beefy and/or super fast troops to take advantage of objective secured, and the armies with comparatively poor troops need to be able to contest.

Swarms still have the blast weakness though.

Then again its one of those situations like my Piranha wall. You dont want to dedicate that kind of firepower to it, but you kinda have to if you want to clear it easily. My necron friend back in South Korea did that with Scarabs all the damn time, and since they were 12" movement the little ratfinks caught my units QUICK if i didnt vaporize them immediately.

Also on the note of troops are easily wiped out - my boyz want a word with you.... lol

I am not convinced about Objective Secured being that big... Most times I just need some scoring unit.

Well, we will find it out soon enough.

Nurglings at least do SOMETHING now, as opposed to being utterly useless. They're essentially the daemon equivalent to cultists now. Cheap as chips and only good for objective holding, but they're good if you want minimum troops for next to nothing.
