Subject: 7th ed unbound Tyranids. Good enough for comp? Don't want FMC spam...

I want a Tyranid combat list.....you know, the way that Nids should operate. I got the new rulebook yesterday, and I have read it completely already. I'm going to go unbound as it then doesn't limit my elites choices. And lets face it, nids prob wouldn't secure objectives, just eat everything on it. I'll get D6+13 warp charge dice to use. I'm trying to remain a little themed and fluffy in this list. I still have no models, so all C+C is welcome. I will listen to good advice and adjust if needs be.
Here it is:
1500 Pts - Codex: Tyranids Roster
Total Roster Cost: 1500
HQ: The Swarmlord (1#, 285 pts, Warlord)
1 The Swarmlord
: Tyrant Guard Brood (2#, 100 pts)
2 Tyrant Guard Brood
HQ: Hive Tyrant (1#, 240 pts)
1 Hive Tyrant + TL Devourer w/Brainleech Worms x2 + Wings + Electroshock Grubs
Elite: Haruspex (1#, 175 pts)
1 Haruspex + Adrenal Glands
Elite: Zoanthrope (1#, 50 pts)
1 Zoanthrope
Elite: Zoanthrope (1#, 50 pts)
1 Zoanthrope
Elite: Zoanthrope (1#, 50 pts)
1 Zoanthrope
Elite: Zoanthrope (1#, 50 pts)
1 Zoanthrope
Elite: Venomthrope (1#, 45 pts)
1 Venomthrope
Troops: Hormagaunt Brood (20#, 160 pts)
20 Hormagaunt Brood + Toxin Sacs
Heavy Support: Mawloc (1#, 140 pts)
1 Mawloc
Heavy Support: Carnifex (1#, 155 pts)
1 Carnifex + Crushing Claws + Bio-plasma
I have the Flyrant for anti air and speed. He will also be pretty good at dealing with infantry. The swarlord is there on things like monster hunts and character hunts, with his bodyguard. The 4 Zoeys can float around zapping and providing synapse cover for the tin can openers, the carny for big armour, and the heraspaux for light to medium armour and any TEQ's and such. The guants are there to run forward fast and harass. They could prob take an MC down themselves. and the venom will provide much needed cover to start.
Obv the mawloc willpop up and eat stuff!
What do people think?
Good? Semi good? Utter Gak!

Short answer utter gak. Long answer:
HQ: The Swarmlord (1#, 285 pts, Warlord) Too expensive for what he does CC is dead in current 40k. Dakka walking Tyrants are fine if you dont want fliers
1 The Swarmlord
: Tyrant Guard Brood (2#, 100 pts)
2 Tyrant Guard Brood
HQ: Hive Tyrant (1#, 240 pts)
1 Hive Tyrant + TL Devourer w/Brainleech Worms x2 + Wings + Electroshock Grubs
Elite: Haruspex (1#, 175 pts) Way expensive for what he is.
1 Haruspex + Adrenal Glands
Elite: Zoanthrope (1#, 50 pts)
1 Zoanthrope
Elite: Zoanthrope (1#, 50 pts)
1 Zoanthrope
Elite: Zoanthrope (1#, 50 pts)
1 Zoanthrope
Elite: Zoanthrope (1#, 50 pts)
1 Zoanthrope
Elite: Venomthrope (1#, 45 pts)
1 Venomthrope
Troops: Hormagaunt Brood (20#, 160 pts)
20 Hormagaunt Brood + Toxin Sacs
Heavy Support: Mawloc (1#, 140 pts)
1 Mawloc
Heavy Support: Carnifex (1#, 155 pts) Dakkafex still better then this setup
1 Carnifex + Crushing Claws + Bio-plasma
For an unbound army you should take advantage of just using more things to kill and less with troops that won't do anything. Going unbound to run 3 zoans seperate is not worth being unbound.

Well thanks for your exceptionally useful input.
On a different note, if this is the most constructive thing you have to say then please don't ever comment on a thread of mine again. If you believe it is poor I am happy for you to say so, but at least back it up with opinions and evidence. Or solutions to problems. What that comment was was childish, unhelpful and unwanted.

Haven't read the current Nid dex in much detail so not sure if i'll be much help, but...
It's not the best list i've ever seen. I think it'd be improved a lot more if you managed to fit in a second squad of Gaunts.
Or Gargoyles. Because you've got 385 points tied up in the Swarmlord, who I love, but when you've got a fairly small model count army for Nids, a Mawloc thats not on until turn 2 or later, 4 individual Zoans even when you stick the Venomthrope next to the Swarmlord it could be seriously damaged seriously quickly.
What i'd probably try out with this list is drop a couple of the Zoans and add that 100 points to the Hormagaunt fund and have two squads of 15/16. Think those running at the enemy with the Flyrant will work quite well.

You're probably right. I want to make the swarlord work, but just can't seem to be able to fit him in in a list of this size.

Yeah, Swarmy is so dang expensive, that it basicly costs you a unit to have him... One way to "fix" that is make a 1500 point list that uses a Walking Tyrant, and swap Swarmy in at higher point games. That way you don't mutate you play style too much...
If you want to run light on Troops, a Tervigon is the way to go. That way you can add Troops in play. Solo Zoeys are good, but volume of fire will snipe them down turn by turn. So you risk giving a "free" "first blood" VP in every game. Of course if you use these fixes, you turn into a Battle Forged. So I guess I'm still learning...

I had a longer answer but I was using my phone. Really knowing what you have available would make it easier to see but really your army doesn't need to be unbound with what you have listed.
Without going into FMC something along these lines I would spam these units however you like.
Dakka Tyrant
2x Tyrant Guard
Venomthrope
Zoanthrope
Mawlocs
Dakkafex

I literally have nothing. I'm starting from nothing for the new edition. And I am determined to make combat work.
Check out my second attempt...

This excites me too, I'm like you, haven't purchased any models yet but really want tyranids, please keep me in the loop.
Also side note, do I need to go to forge world to buy twin linked devouers with brain leech worms for my hive tyrant?

I don'k so. I'm pretty sure there is devs in the box. But the forgeworld ones do look nicer, so I'll probably be ordering those ones.
And will do bud. check out the link I put up and let me know what you think of that list.

If you're "handy" you can make your own. I took some Crushing claws and trimed the pincers, and glued in Devourers, added a little epoxy, and it looks fine.
I've also seen (here on Dakka Dakka) a mod of a Heavy Cannon, it was trimmed down, and several Devourer hives were glued on. It looked very good. I've also seen using the giant hive guns off of Tyranofex, that was then called "twin link Brain Leech launchers" (Death beetle hive thingeys)
