So IDK why I did this, but I'm just starting to work on my first squad for my Black Legion army, and I put all the pads for the first 5 or so models on the wrong side, so the Legion logo would be on the right side. Anyone have a method for removing them without damaging the parts? I'm mixing and matching the regular kit pads with some from Kromlech and Evil Craft that I'd REALLY love to keep intact. I feel like such a ding-dong right now...

Did you use superglue or plastic cement? If the latter, they won't come apart.

The only way you could remedy it, assuming you wanted to go through the trouble, would be to use a razor saw or exacto (carefully) to cut the arms off flush with the shoulder pads, then swap the shoulder pads, then glue the arms onto the opposite shoulder (facing the correct orientation). If the arms are plastic, then the plastic cement you used earlier will be plenty to hold them.

Please play closer attention to the content and guildelines of the sections you choose to create a thread in... this is a question about P&M, not a tutorial, hence it should be in P&M. The stickies at the top of each section will help steer you in the right direction til you get the lay of the land.

There are things that dissolve super glue out there, not sure the name but I think zap-a-gap or similar has it. If it is plastic glue and both items weren't plastic, just gently but firmly pry it off with a toothpick or something similar if you can, it would not be a great bond. If it was plastic to plastic with plastic glue, then again you can only try to lever it off and hope for the best, but this time a bit riskier.

Final and safest option with a bit of extra work, just carely clip the arms off at the pad edge, do the same with the opposite arms, and glue the proper arms back on in the correct location... they are all cyclindrical armor so it shouldn't be too too bad. If things don't fit together perfectly on reassembly, get some GS in there to seat the arm nicely again.

Good luck!

You could place it in some Simple Green/LA Totally Awesome for a good length of time....that may wear down the glue.

They are chaos marines... surely things like pauldron assignment are even more like guidelines than they are for Imperial forces... Do you actually mind where the pauldrons g, or are you just trying to fit into some fluff, becasue fluff is ever malleable.

This.

I'm not seeing a problem here. It would be if it was what I originally thought this thread would be about and you'd stuck the shoulder pads on 90 degrees at the wrong angle.

The first (chaos) marines I assembled had the shoulderpads on upside down, with the flat bit at the shoulder rather than the rounded bit. Sadly I used plastic glue, so it was harder to fix - some ended up being "chaosified" and "battle damaged" ; p

Try using a thin bladed screw driver and slowly go from side to side till it pops off. If they don't, don't worry about it.

I find that when I soak stuff in Dettol it always loosens the bond between plastic and all glue, dump them in some for about 2 hours and hopefully they will prise apart. You will still need to use a bit of force though.

I'll let you in on a secret: Nobody is really going to care. Its not like the GW police will smash through your door and beat the living snot out of you, your cat, and your cat's second cousin for violating the sanctity of how the model should be assembled. It's fine, nobody will really care or notice.

There's a 'right' and 'wrong' side for shoulderpads? I didn't know that... My CSMs have their markings on the side that look the best to me.

If it's anything other than plastic glue just put them in the freezer for about an hour, the bonding will become brittle and it will be easy to snap apart.

Wait, if you are using GW plastic glue, with careful application of pressure in the right place, you can pop the suckers out. GW plastic glue is notoriously bad.

Yeah I'm just gonna go with it and do that as a thing for every CSM I make. Sorry about putting this in the wrong forum, my bad.
