Hey I'm considering getting back into 40k and was wondering if the dark vengeance box would be a good base to start a nurgle army. I figured I could just get some green stuff to make all of the models nurgly.

If this is okay, what should I buy next as far as complementing what I would have from the box

I wouldn't buy the dark vengeance box. it still has only the 6th edition rulebook. and with the 7th edition out now, I think there will be soon a new starter box, too.

I figured that, regardless of the rule book the models Aline would be worth the cost in models alone considering that two boxes of plague marines would be 90 bucks.

I mean, please correct me if I'm wrong but it still seems like a good startup deal

The models that come with dark vengeance are not worth it. Cultists are good but look into ebay for old dark vengeance cultists. There are a bunch of ways to cheaply start a nurgle army, my suggestion is to be patient and go cheap

I recommend getting the Chosen and Chaos Lord (Kranon) from eBay or a bits site, simply because they are lovely models that every Chaos Marine player should own.

For Plague Marines, just get standard Marines (either Tactical or Chaos, depending on what aesthetic you're going with) and paint them Nurgly and/or throw in a few Nurgle bits from the CSM box.

Most important tip: don't buy direct from GW. Look around online for a shop that sells GW products for 20-25% less than GW. If you really want to go cheap, it's a good idea to dig around eBay and other places for people selling unwanted miniatures and armies.

It is, but you should be able to get it at discount, because of the rules being out dated. if you convert the DA figs, you have a pretty nice start.

HELL. Or just England

I wouldnt go for DV, the chaos side of the box looks nice but isnt exactly 'good for the table'

That said I do love the Chaos Lord mini, and the Cultist with the shotgun is probably my favourite mini from the set, as such gets a lot of use for my Necromunda gang leader. Oh and the dude with the power axe is ace too.

Okay its actually a set of great looking models. Damn it.

To be honest id just use a discont seller, buy a couple of boxes of CSM, use green stuff and off you go! Maybe a box of VC zombies if you go down the Tyhpus route?
