Previous post info:

Spoiler:
You can expect much of the same from previous years and we are currently updating and refining the rules pack which will be finalized in the coming weeks.

The basics are not set in stone, but this is what we are working with so far:

- 5 games, Saturday and Sunday, October 25-26, 2014

- All aspects of the hobby will be scored.

- The best tables and terrain out there! We have the widest variety of GW, FW, and club built terrain as well as dedicated side boards to place your valuable army.

- No house-hammer, play by the rules - all the rules without ban lists.

- Force Organization will be Battle Forged with some point restrictions.

- You may have no more than 4 rules sources for your army to keep play from slowing down. Each codex, supplement, datasheet, etc. will count as one source - so a player running the Sentinels of Terra with a Land Raider Helios and Aegis Defense Line in their list would have 4 sources = Codex:Space Marines, Sentinels of Terra - Codex Supplement, Imperial Armour 2 and Stronghold Assault

6.3.14 - Rules teaser - Terrain Datasheet

Here is the template that we will be working with. As all of our previous events, all terrain will be clearly labelled and represented in the rules packet.

A reminder for attendees - get your army lists in early! There are big points available so do not waste your chance at an easy score.

From the rules pack:

Early List Turn In—Submit your list from now until midnight on October 20, 2014 for review and verification. You must submit your Army List in the format shown on page 6 of this Rules Pack. This helps us get your list verification done ahead of time and helps you catch any errors. No army construction software is accepted for verifications—it must be in the proper format!

Last year close to 10% of the army rosters had errors. Almost all of these are caused by army building software being out of date or having incorrect information. The new edition of the rules can make it even more complicated. In the past we have made sure to check army lists by the end of the first round but due to the increasing amount of errors caused by software issues we want ALL lists verified before the start of the first game.

This looks awesome, really interested in the tournament even if not able to make it as it seems your allowing more than one detachment, etc... that's pretty awesome.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

I have a few updates and reminders for today.

Tomorrow is the cut off for new rules sources. The Dark Eldar missed the mark but Forge World was sneaky and got in another knight!

The final Rules Pack will be updated for all legal sources and be out early next week.

The Army Construction Guide will be updated for all current sources up to tomorrow and then be locked until after the event. I will continue to update it for players to use after the event as it has been a very popular resource.

The piles of loot are growing quickly. Thanks to all our sponsors we will once again have some of the best swag bags and prizes anywhere.

T Shirts will be available to pre-order starting Monday, September 29. The order goes to the printer on October 3rd.

And finally, remember to book your room in the next week if you are planning to stay at the closest hotel. There are others nearby in the same price range if you have a military, AAA or other discount method.

The Hotel discount rate ends October 3rd. Get your reservations in as soon as possible if you plan to stay at the Hilton.

There are just two weeks until the convention!

Tickets are still available for the only true 7th edition tournament of the year. No army roster restrictions aside from being Battle Forged, no ban lists, no funny faq's.

Our sponsored prize pool is one of the best anywhere, even if you are not at the top of the results there are great prizes to win. Over half of all players will win loot and that is just the beginning.

The tables and terrain are fantastic. With our sideboards to place your army and room for your dice, books and beverages - you can relax and enjoy your games while playing on beautiful battlefields.

Each player will also receive a set of objective markers for use in Maelstrom missions in addition to the swag bag.

Hi, quick question.

Is Mechanicon claiming to be the North American Championships for Warhammer 40k?

Defensive response aside, I was just clarifying the language. It could be the 40k Championships of their event in North America. Or they could be claiming to be the North American 40k Championships.

RE: ATC, they are the largest, most competitively-attended event, so that gives them some claim to it.

Indeed it is despite the snarky response above. The only way I'd consider it any kind of "North American Championship" is if GW said it was. It's a nomenclature only intended to put the event on a pedestal above other similarly sized events if there isn't any official blessing from GW.

Also for ATC, it is kind of a one of a kind event here in the us, I don"t see other team events. Whereas randomly naming any one event as a championship of North America, just comes off as laughable without any kind of official backing, and serves no purpose other than trying to put it on a level above other events, and given some of the snipes at other events obvious in their advertisements, it is obvious what the intent is.

As far as who gets to claim the title of Championships - it can be everyone but really is no one!

In the beginning, there was only one Grand Tournament a year and that was pretty much the only time we had a championship. Now you have multiple systems run by groups worldwide and each is a different kind of contest.

There is something for everyone now and it isn't about who is the biggest, who has the best venue, who has the best rewards - it is about going to an event that you like with your buddies and playing some games. If you don't like an event then you will be sure to easily find another one more to your liking.

And as stated, not the same format, the ATC borrows from the ETC format, hence the name...

@ mech boyz,Agree that no one can claim to be the championship, and that anyone can if they want, but that coupled with statements like

"Only true 40k tournament"
And
"No funny faqs"

Suggest that you don't actually believe in the there is something for everyone event, and feel the need to validate your event, by sniping at other events. And claiming the moniker of North American 40k championship, with no backing comes across as ego.

Never been to your event, could be the most fun event ever, but with the negativity coming across, I can't say I ever would.

So with no FAQs, what o we do when we come across an issue? And can we guarantee that the judges ruling will be consistent though out the event with othe judges?

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.

a "true" 7th edition Tournament wouldn't have judges and just follow the books "most important rule of all"

Breng77 - your read on negativity and sniping was not what was intended. There were clear statements about what makes our event different. We know many players who do not like aspects of other events that most tournament attendees in the US do love, so it is not about being negative but instead impressing the point that we do offer something radically different than the norm.

We are allowing ALL army lists and 40K approved units. If you take a look at some of the restrictions out there, you can see there are some weird ones. Fortifications are a good example - why do so many events ban the Imperial Bunker yet allow the Firestorm Redoubt? To me it is just a copy/paste issue and the authors probably not know what they are missing since Stronghold Assault was generally banned for the first 6 months following its release. Restrictions on roster building have proved popular elsewhere but we are sticking with the game by the book for our first 7th edition tournament and most likely in future events.

As far as "funny FAQ's" take at look at the Wave Serpent issue. You have multiple rulings at multiple events for the Serpent Shield yet the rules are very clear that it is hull mounted weapon pointing forward. Now I will concede that due to the non-rectangular shape of the vehicle may cause a debate at whether you measure from the front of the wing tips or the front of the cockpit area but why are the arcs and starting points FAQed differently in multiple event FAQs? Hence the "funny".

As far as the Championships claim, it is a point of jest that only a few people here on Dakka took as insult. Meanwhile we had numerous cheers for the same comment. If a player is truly concerned about whether you can validate your legitimacy as the champion then we are probably not the event for them.

We have a great time reliving the original Grand Tournament event format and most competitive (or any other term that is not offensive to the reader) will not like it. On the other hand we do have players who like to attend every event they can and will jump into a new format with a new house FAQ and army restrictions at the next tourney on their schedule because that is what they love.

zedsdead - You nailed it as far as rulings, the judges will be very knowledgeable of all the rules as our club library has every publication and we have spent a lot of time becoming familiar with each book and the newest rules as well as many of the contested issues. This is our sixth year and we have always gone without FAQs and used the "most important rule of all".

We will be able to help point out in which book and on which page that info for a rules issue is covered. After that, it is a roll off if the players do not agree.
