10 Vanguard Veterans with 10 grav pistols and 10 storm shields in a drop pod.
Enough firepower to erase Riptides and Wraithknights and enough durability to survive the interceptor or return fire.

Why do you need 10 storm shields? You could just have a few tank the wounds. And that's an expensive unit.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

You're spending 440 points to kill units that cost almost half that.

Or just drop pod in sternguard and use hellfire rounds on them. Sure they still grant an armor save but you can throw out twice as many shots at the same range. Also you wound everything on a 2+. Which is better then grav will do to most MC's. This will run you much less pts wise and still be useful once they accomplish their mission. If you want sprinkle in a few combi weapons to help add a bit of weight to the unit. A much better option then attempting to make Vanguard vets useful

Grav cents in a LR do the job nicely.

Lascannon devastator squad.

Plasmagun command squad in a pod or on bikes

Grav-bikes

Just to name a few...

Yes but it will survive to do it again and again for other high value units.

And what if you face an IG/AM army? Orks? Eldar without a Wraithknight? Dark Eldar? Hell, even other marines and sisters don't have a decent target for them.

Even if you've got a viable target, they average 4.44 wounds against 3+ armour before any invul or coversaves. Not even enough to kill a wraithknight or tervigon. Hardly erasing them.

Then that 440 point squad dies just as fast to lasguns as a standard unit of marines.

Or you opponent can just bubblewrap his MC's.

Take sternguard instead.

8,000 pts and counting
1,000 points, now painting.

Issue with Sternguard is the whole squad dying to interceptor pie plates or eating five plasma cannons from IG.

Embrace the fact that they were not meant to survive the game lol. It's hilarious from a fluff perspective that you'd toss your vets into a meat grinder, but in game thats generally their roll.

Word, toss in some Melta power, and its TAC as you can also use the same unit vs Tanks.

Use simple target saturation and your opponent will have to choose between blasting them or something else which is still on the field threatening another the rest of the army
