For what it's worth, for you yanks, there's now a browser plug in that lets you see just how much it took for your senators and representatives to sell out their country for. I'd figure that the average person's loyalty should be worth a hell of a lot less.

A country is just a binding to a specific geographical landmass, It has no meaning.

I am loyal to this world, but not this country. If someone in the white house asked me for guidance and said they were planning on nuking and destroying a forest that had a terrorist but it had the last of an animal species, I would say no.

I am a Terran (Or Earthling, or Comes from Earth), not an American. I am a Human, my sub species is Caucasian but my race is not white, race is just a stupid idea that people have, There is only one race. The human race and we are the sub categorical group that is located on Terra or Earth.

Its a trapping to believe that any one government will stay forever.

But this is only if the governmental body has betrayed the interests of the world. And has become bad or the nonexistant term used by others called Evil.

I think that showing me that my country has betrayed the interests of the world and it's people is enough for me to work against it.

In a perfect world, with perfect individuals, who can work together just to help each other, we wouldn't need governments. But sadly we do, to keep crazy people from killing those who are not crazy.

I'd betray my country for a dismantling of all secret service apparatus , those witches should really feth off and die. I love people "protecting democracy" by spying on others.

First, about my use of the optional word betray.

When working against those that are in power, it is common for those powerful individuals to rally support by attempting to demonize their opponents. I included the word not to imply a moral judgement about ones actions for going against their government. Rather, I wanted to leave it up to the posters in this thread to decide how their actions would be viewed.

Also, some people would turn against their governments for pure personal gain and others would do so for only the most altruistic of reasons. Yet irony abounds and some who would betray for base reasons would be later held up as heroes and others who were only doing what was right or ethical would be forever remembered as villains.

Basically, I put the word in so that people knew that I wasn't trying to trick them into a discussion about a possibly dangerous topic. Better to put what some would call said actions out in the open in the first place.

Are you implying that going against your government is something that inherently should be rewarded?

So, lets say there was another very small yet influential governmental department with the support of either the legislative or executive branch.... and that it was opposed by the the other branch ..... then you found out that said department was violating the law or endangering the rights, liberties of lives of non-involved citizens.

Would you blow the whistle?


Just working from the reality of competing departments and polarized politics. Such a situation could play out as you having worked against the governments interests no matter which way you decide.

Race is a subdivision of a species. A subspecies is a race that is sufficiently distinct. Humanity has no subspecies, but it does have races. There is nothing wrong with there being different races. Race is not just a stupid idea, it is a fact. Rejecting this is nothing more than political correctness and can lead to awkwardness (such as in the case of the EU ) It is the believe that some races are better than other that is stupid. All human races are closely related to each other, there is not one that is superior to others.

A country is much, much more than just a specific geographical landmass, it has a lot of meaning. A country is a home to an ethnic group. Having a home is very important to people. A country ≠ state or nation. These words often get used interchangeably, but they do not mean the same things. A nation is a group of people with similar culture, history and values. A country is a piece of land that is considered to be 'home' to such a group, while a state is political entity.

In my case, I would never betray my nation. But would have no problem at all betraying my state. So to the question: "Would you betray your nation's government?'' I'd have to say yes, if someone who I agree with more asks it. A nation's government (state) is often not representative of the nation itself.

If I found out that someone within the government was abusing their power, I would actively work against that abuse. I would not require compensation but would take measures to ensure that I wasn't harmed for doing what I believed to be right. I don't think that would be considering a betrayal. In my mind, you'd be doing your job.

Police. The guys I work with feel the same. Not a lot of love for this federal government in the law enforcement community.

I say that in regards to most southern law enforcement, places like California , New York, and other large lefty cities, I wouldn't trust. The mentalities are different with those guys.
