Texas Games Con is a black hole for information. No results, no battle reports, nothing.
Here is all of the information we have from an "alleged" major GT: Mike Kiser won w/ Scars/Iron Hands bikes

I don't get the bile; TGC has moved more toward WM/H, FoW, and other game systems. My understanding from those who attended was that they had a really fun 50-person 40K event where all had a great time or something to that effect. My understanding is the con either stayed at the same multi-hundred person level as last year or grew meaningfully, and again focused more on other game systems and less on 40K than in the past.

More just confused we didnt' see it get advertised much. Even for other events this is a pretty big forum and you'd figure it would have gone up here. I didn't even know it had already happened to be honest.

For some reason Texas events aren't advertised on Dakka. I'm really not sure why.

Here is the odd part is that it was not really on BoLS either. No results or coverage which is surprising since it is their event.
Other than a quick movie focusing on tables, they did not have any coverage. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just disappointment at the lack of any meaningful information. This was the largest event so far for 7th edition and a lot of people were interested in the results and hoping to see what lessons were learned.
My understanding is the con either stayed at the same multi-hundred person level as last year or grew meaningfully, and again focused more on other game systems and less on 40K than in the past.
Still you have to wonder why no coverage or information.
I am hoping that the Heroic 28s will have some info on it.

We recorded yesterday, so expect that up later this week.
But yeah, overall MVB is spot on. Attendance was up, but 40k participation was down. WM/H, X-Wing, FoW, et al all grew pretty significantly.

I was at tx games con this year. I feel the subjective comp in the 1500 pt GT event really held people back. For being a 'comp' system, it didn't do a very good job at keeping the b.s. out. The team tourney was cool, and the idea of running a 2k/1500 GT was interesting, but there were some problems with it.
Because of the choice of 2k/1.5k most everyone participated in the 1.5k because it was advertised as where the BS was not, as because that was the point of the 2k unlimited. It turned out 3 people showed up for the 2k.
Also, prize support seemed pretty bare. There were interesting trophy belt buckles for best general/painted/sports (and a gag prize of a new game for last place), as well as gift cards for those 3 in the 1500, but the 2k only had a trophy for best general and the team only had a pair of buckles that went to the best sportsmans (not generals).
The 40k side of this event seemed poorly run. The narrative seemed poorly run and ran imbalanced at first, something about time limits for game turns but not side turns, but they fixed that as it went on. The judging wasn't the best either, but we as humans make mistakes so that is forgivable.
All in all, I had a good time there. I enjoyed playing against the people that came, and $2 Shiners on tap are always awesome (well, I should say in a pitcher next to the tap, weird hotel people).
That being said, I would not attend this event next year if the organizer does not put out concrete rules for list building and acceptance, other than "if I walked up to the table at my local store, would I be happy to play against this list or would I look for another opponent?" Having a little disclaimer saying that people wont be happy with it doesn't mean it's okay to have subjective comp. If there is going to be comp at all it needs to be in plain writing that everyone can follow and abide by.

The other nugget of info I can add from memory is that Necrons were all over the top tables. At least four solid builds, one completely devoid of flyers and the dreaded catacomb lord (which was played by David Light who won Best General). If you want a quick summary of my list and opponents, let me know and I'll PM it to you.

I was there but just for painting. Took home 2 golds and 2 silvers. But they didn't announce awards for it and I had to venture to several different areas of the tournament hall before finding out if I won or not.

Just a quick correction, David had a Destroyer Lord. Myself and the other Uncle Buck were running bumper cars all over the place.

I don't really have a problem with comp. But if you're going to comp, post a list. Don't just take emails from people where 3 people send identical lists and 1 gets approved and the others don't. That's just crap.

Chumby might be able to shed light on this but did the GT have problems with time as they were only allocating 2hr 15min per round for the first few rounds then increasing it to 2.5hrs. That probably is fine for the 1500pt tourney but a 2000pt tournament might run into some serious issues.
Hopefully someone posts some results soon.

The only armies that ran into time problems were the summoning demon builds. I finished all my games easily, including one against Chumblee that went 7.

I didn't say that it did happen. I said that I heard it happened (meaning it was a rumor) but I don't remember who told me that (out of the people that went).
I also said that the reason I didn't go was because I suspected it could happen.
There's no facts to provide because I never said something did happen.
None of that changes the fact that a subjective comp system is crap.

So, you are spreading an unsubstantiated rumor to support your irrational fear based on your opinion that subjective is crap. Because let's face it, that is really your opinion and not a fact..
I am curious if you didn't want to play a comp event why not play in the 2000 pt tournament? There was no comp at all in that event.

I would get used to this "hidden" method, it looks like BAO is using the same method of comp for their Friendly tournament. I think we will see more events using this method of comp in the future, at least for their "non-competitive" events.
