I have been playing at 2000 pts for a while now. But some guy at the local store have challenged me to prepare for a couple local tourney that plays at 1850. The goal is to go to the LVO next year if they have it. So this is the list I been playing BAO mission with.
I now need some help trimming the list a little as as is the list works very well.
The list at 2000
== HQ ==
Hive Tyrant (1) - Twin-Linked Devourer - Brainleech Worms, Twin-Linked Devourer - Brainleech Worms, Regeneration, Wings
Hive Tyrant (1) - Twin-Linked Devourer - Brainleech Worms, Twin-Linked Devourer - Brainleech Worms, Wings
== Elites ==

Venomthrope
== Troops ==
Tyranid Warrior Brood
Tyranid Warrior (2) - Deathspitter, Scything Talons, Toxin Sacs
Tyranid Warrior (1) - Barbed Strangler, Lash Whip And Bonesword, Toxin Sacs .
Tervigon (1) - Cluster Spines, Crushing Claws, Thorax - Electroshock Grubs, Taken As Troops
Termagant Brood (160 pts.)
Termagant (20) - Fleshborer
Termagant (10) - Devourer
Hormagaunt Brood (20) - Adrenal Glands
== Fast Attack ==
Hive Crone (1) =
Gargoyle Brood (20) - Adrenal Glands
== Heavy Support ==
Exocrine (1)
Carnifex (1) - Twin-Linked Devourer - Brainleech Worms, Twin-Linked Devourer - Brainleech Worms
Biovore Brood (3)
== Total ==
1999 pts.
This list has allowed me to herd my opponents with its speed. With the garg's flying out front and the Hormagaunts right behind or next to them( they can be so fast at times). I put a lot of pressure on right from the start. Every thing that is fast can hurt tanks or infantry equally. With the fire power from the flyrants and the fex. Backed by the Living Art formation I have several threats that I feel make targeting a issue.
I have 4 options the Hormagaunts, Gargs, Crone, or the Fex.
The fex I feel need to stay for the extra fire power.
The Gargs are good and work well with the tyrants. But they have been so-so in my play testing.
The Crone is nice but seam to hit and miss depending on is the opponent has any air craft.
I know a lot of people will say drop the Hormagaunts but I have found them to be very useful. People dismiss them a lot but they kill more then the gargs do.
I have to make some choices. I hoping to get some input on these or maybe a new idea that work well with my list.

I think some of the points can be saved by dropping the toxin sacs from the warriors, as well as the lash whip and boneswords. Won't get you to 1850, but is a solid place to start. The warriors are basically just shooty synapse, but not your CC monsters.
Not sure about adrenal glands on either the gargoyles or hormagaunts. Even wounding T4 on a 5+ is mitigated by the sheer volume of dice. Plus, if they just die to dakka before getting there it does not matter.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

I think to get you down in points you can probably lose all the upgrades.
What to drop:
Regen from the Flyrant: 30
Crushing claws from the Tervigon: 15
Devourers from gants: 40
LW/BS and TS from Warriors: 29
Adrenal glands from the Gargoyles: 40
Total points cut: 154
Keep the adrenals on the hormagaunts because they can be your last ditch effort to glance armor to death...gargoyles will be targeted first and should be going after infantry.

A very easy "trim" is just drop upgrades...just glancing at the list, Regen, Toxic on the Warriors, and the Adrenal glands could go, and the cluster spines on the Tervigon...that alone drops you close to 1850. If you trim the Gargoyles to x15, they should do the same work, but cost 30+ points less.
I also like and use Hormagaunts, they can put a lot of pressure on the foe early, and are just dangerous enough to demand attention.
I personally always want a Thorax Hive full of Elactro-bugs for my Tyrants, we just have so few answers for vehicles, and it makes charging them all the more diffacult. So, I'd trim 20 and buy those for sure...
Crones are "OK", and do well vs Fliers. But two is much better than one. But the only credible way to add a second one is to drop the Carnifex...and I don't think that is such a great idea.
"Living Artillery" is a strong build, so you should do well. The main weakness I see is Synapse, it looks to me like a dedicated Synapse hunt could leave you short in a hurry. Are your Warriors glued? "cause if not, cheaper Warriors might leave points for a second Brood.
In my own experience, solo Venos are often gift wrapped "First Blood" points, so you'll need to be carefull...or run them as a doubled out Brood.

I hadn't thought about taking the up grade off. I will try it to see how it work. My only worry is that doing so will change how the unit plays.
Having the glans on the gargs allow them to kill tanks as well. they are not real good at killing infentry at str 3.
I think the crone works well in pairs as well. Thats why i am thinking lose it would not effect they way the army play to much.

It will change their play, but not by much...you shouldn't be charging tanks with gaunts anyway...so now it just won't be an option.
For me, Gargoyles, and Hormies work best when they tarpit enemy units, if I need it dead, I send a Big Bug to join the fight. If you lose the Crone, I'd suggest adding a second Dakkafex. In general, Nids work best when you go "vanilla" and just buy moar dudes! ( tm) So I don't think you'll miss them too much.
Good Luck! And good hunting.

I agree with pinecone. I would drop upgrades to bring more bodies on the table. Nid are almost always better when going for quantity over quality. The nice thing with nids is that you can often have a mix of both in the same army.
