The reason they don't know his name, is because Wolves run a lucrative Berserker Dreadnought business, slapping half-dead Wulfen on an old Dread chassis', and selling them to the highest bidding Chaos Warband. Occasionally, they forget one at the back of the storage, where some novice Iron Priest stumbles across it and thinks the Dread is actually a forgotten chapter relic. Not surprisingly, the newly-relocated 'chapter hero' is given a chance to prove his valour, fronting an assault against overwhelming enemy at the next battle. Hence the Dread chassis can be salvaged again, before the Wulfen inside has a chance of having a rare lucid moment with his brothers.

Seriously... Murderclaws. Murderlust. Biting? Forgot his name?

If lowest common denominator is insulting, how about pandering fan service? Like, that's just really, really dumb.

His points value is good compared to other dreads, but he's still an Av12 Walker plodding along. He'll either get kited or killed.

I don't get this argument yeah Murderclaw is silly...

Super Space Warriors with Chainsaw Swords are silly
Fungus Barbarian Berzerkers with ramshackle cars are silly
Space Elves and their evil cousins who absorb pain from other species to save themselves from a rapist god are silly
Anime inspired wannabe communist cow/fish people are silly

You find me the part of Warhammer 40k that's "srs buziness" and not just a mish mash of other companies lumped together to appeal to the largest fanbase.

40k is meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator in general, I say keep it going I have enough "serious" nerd hobbies I'll take a silly crazy back ground full of Murderwolfs and Bleeding Blood Angels if Doom.

Its called suspension of disbelief, the wanting to immerse in something impossible or implausible. Its what happens when you enjoy great fiction.

We can have epic battles or named heroes. Super soldiers, aliens of various origins, mysterious powers of unknown origin.its all make believe that we enjoy to various degrees. Its how it is written and perceived that makes the difference.

The tragic story of Bjorn the Fell Handed is well grounded in the War hammer 40k mythos and lends great character to the Space Wolves. A Dread named Murderfang of great rage and unknown origin, with a fluff defying sculpt, breaks the suspensionnof disbelief and is incredibly lazy. They called his weapons Murderclaws. They gave a berserker dread of unknown origin chapter relics that they named Murderclaws.

That's stupid. And if you didn't get that murder is his MO, he has murder lust.

He's a Khorne character in a wolf book. He's a 5++ away from a daemon engine. He fits the aspect of the Blood God than anything else.

People keep adding words to my statement. I never said idiots or any insult. Its your personal interpretation that I said such a thing. If I said Fisher Price makes toys for babies and you loved some of their stuff, are you mad about this? Did I call you a baby? Only if you're not mature and don't indentify yourself by your likes and dislikes as an adult.

Again, something can be created for the lowest common denomination, like Wolverine McMurderface, and you can like it, but it doesn't mean you're a blathering idiot. You just like something.I enjoy many a bad video game, does that mean I'm an idiot for having fun? Does that make the game suddenly good of everyone likes it? No.

So stop getting upset at someone's opinion on a model. If I had called it stupid and you like it, is it then me saying you're stupid? No.

Back on topic, AV12 is kinda a downer but 135 he is dirt cheap, was expecting at least 200 points or something stupid like that. Put him in a drop pod and you have an excellent distraction unit for only 170 pts that will wreck most any unit it gets into CC with.

yeah.. gonna take more then 135 pts worth of shooting to take him out, esp since you can pod him in, get cover from the pod, AND he has IWND.

everything dies in this game, murderfang is a neat unit, with a good niche to fit in,

a minor cosmetic thing like the exposed head is a moot point given the cosmetic AWESOMENESS of the rest of the model, and the BITS BOX good ness that is all the spare bits we get in this kit now...

Hey, great, calling GW out on their marketing is now insulting. Hooray? Thanks for being realistic.

And for every "Murderfang" they make, that's one less box of Wulven or a new Ragnar model we could get. Both are something which many wolves players have wanted.

It's an absolute joke to make a "new" Ragnar out of bits from the Space Wolves Pack.
And why do you need a box of Wulfen if they're not a unit choice?

Well that's my issue. Ragnar is the most iconic Space Wolf character there is; you shouldn't have to make a new one from the Grey Hunter box. Wulfen are also very iconic. We got Exo-frame Wolverine rules instead of Wulfen rules. I don't understand some of the logic. It is somewhat frustrating for me.

Those other things only sound silly because you've given them silly names. Murderfang is this thing's actual name, and that's what we're complaining about. 0/10 must try harder

You're only insulted if you equate your self worth with plastic army men. And that's your problem, not mine. I didn't realize I had to think of someone's feelings when I critique a model. The same happens on video games with reviews quite often. Objectively identifying issues is taken as a personal slight, which isn't healthy.

I certainly hope there is room in the release for updates of core character models. One should not have to kitbash Ragnar, its not like he has novels about him or anything. Not like he's said to be inline as the next Chapter Master.

I'm just waiting for the rules. If the Grey Hunters leak is true, it'll be a sad day as it removes a lot of their flavor and efficiencies given to them because they cannot combat squad. Blood Claws getting cheaper is really needed and welcome.

Most things 40k feels silly when it is introduced as a new separate element.
Personally I think the alien nevermelting ice claws far more silly than most of the other stuff.

What they need is a series of fenrisian murder mystery books to establish the character.
Guess who dunnit!

Haven't they said something about not updating certain models which they consider to be 'iconic'? Not that I think the Ragnar model is great (it's not), but I'd hazard the guess that he falls into that category.

You know Space Wolves, more than maybe any other chapter, have a sense of humor. Calling the mysterious hero, succumbed to the curse, "Murderfang" is just the thing a Space Wolf might do while lifting a tankard to his glories after battle is done. Loosen up, you grim feths. It's a new model with new possibilities and I'll have fun running it on the board. Jeez, all we do is bitch about everything here. Damn, now I'm bitching about bitching!

Niche of slow moving, not very durable, assault unit?

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to use him, but I don't think he's good. He has the issues a lot of bad assault units have, he's slow. He can't hide behind the pod, then jump assault or something awesome back into range. He's a standard walker.

Everything dies, some things die without being efficient. But it doesn't matter, you don't have to play competitively.

Besides, he's cheap. That's always something.

If he's a character it's not that surprising. They have been separating things exclusive to a character from Wargear and putting it into something fluffy named for awhile.

Things like "Chapter Relics" for Dark Angels or "Remnants of Glory" for Eldar come to mind.

No, but once in the appropriate place is generally good. Technically, the only thing he is equipped with is a searchlight.

Plus, is the bonus attack included for a pair of weapons? That normally needs clarifying.

Technically, they have everything that's printed on their page. Each unit gets one page. There's nowhere else the Claws could possibly be than on the model whose page they're printed on.

FYI, every single datasheet in the Ork codex is like this. You're saying that Orks basically don't have any of their unique rules or wargear, because it's not spelled out for you that they have the unique rule that is printed on their page.

Well, unless it says it's included in his profile, it isn't included in his profile. But yeah, not including the claws in his wargear section is very sloppy indeed. If they're changing the format forever, and thus it's deliberate, then fair enough, we don't really have a lot to go on either way with that. Seems to be a new trend, at least.
