I printed out the rules, but forgot to save it.

I really wanted to see the adventure book too.

Darn.

I'll have to check out BGG and hope that someone there snagged it.

If they aren't too many pages and you have access to a scanner, maybe this would be an option.

Not having the alpha rules handy, it's hard to compare them.

Things I certainly didn't notice before-

2 types of spells- major and minor. As an action can use either 1 major or 2 minor spells per turn. Major spells need to recharge.
Heroes and monsters can have a spellcaster trait. Lists a bunch of classes that can use spells. Prestidigitators?

Magic Items- can carry a bunch, but they form a stack- only the top ones are available to use for special effects that turn. Sundry items can all be used whenever.

Furniture rules are included, as well as tables for how to destroy them all.

The rules were a very interesting work in progress. I really don't think we were supposed to see those yet. There's lots of notes for what I'm assuming are internal use.

Shame I couldn't snag the adventure book. Really would have liked to see that.

Yeah that book sounds great. Game really sounds like it could be a pnp rpg without being one. Great casual bait muahahah.

Just gonna repost here...

I did read the adventure book part. Was just the scenarios, though one interesting part: In the campaign at least, loot is predetermined. That is, youve got two chests, one contains armour, one two specific potions, for instance. Leveling up in the basic rules is linear, you get specific skills and equipment for each scenario. Most likely different in the advanced rules though, since Jake said something about the progression a while ago...

The predetermined loot just jostled my memory.

-Experience cards. The rules call to place relevant experience cards with heroes upon leveling up. Campaign has a linear level up path, while the advanced rules are naturally going to be a bit free form.

-Overlord deck. Made of 12 cards, single use, every time. Each overlord type has a specific deck. In addition to all the current overlords, Abyssal Dwarf Kings and corrupted Elven traitors get mentioned as possible adversaries.

It will be interesting to see if these other overlords will be in future dedicated expansions, or as rules available straight out of the box.

Oh, another thing: How the campaign works. Basically, youve got 15 hours before the necromancer wins. Each scenario takes one "hour".
That gives the heroes about 4 hours more than necessary, I think... so the heroes can lose that often and replay until the necromancer wins the campaign. Which solves the problem of the good guys always winning quite nicely.

Huh so it's like a timed campaign. And it sounds like you could verify an early win condition for the Necromancer that way too. If the heroes lose five scenarios before the end that means they can't possibly get to the end right? Cool.

Yeah, pretty much. Kind of gets around the fact that no one would want to play the bad guy, cause theres no way for him to win... And it still allows the heroes to mess up a couple of times.

The plague have a similar 'default' win condition in the Nexus Psi Deadzone campaign.

The plague start with all the territories and the winner is the person, who after 5 games, controls all the territories.

So, if after 5 games, the goodguys make no real progress at all, or get booted off, the plague win. - Though Nexus Psi is a bit of a weird campaign, heavily biased towards the plague at the start, but it should turn around towards the end.

Well, the dragon seems to be done. Theres a teaser here:

Not much to go by, detailwise, but it gives an idea of the scale at least.

There's a good shot of it around 4:36 or so.

Dragon seems to stand about half as tall as a Mantic VHS box. Nice.

Yeah, I'm gonna photoshop out the cocktail sticks for the photos I put up. :-)

The goblins are lovely sculpts, and the orclings have loads of character; my favorite is the pair pretending to be big (but still being pretty damn small).

Wait till you see the troll, it's bloody lovely.

Yeah. Can't see there being any difference in production pieces. Some of the stuff I've done for mantic has been PVC, some styrene, some metal. It's all fine with the right tools. I'm actually contemplating an Orc army for kings of war once I'm done with my perry historicals.

So what are thoughts on the stuff that's going to be worthwhile for this thing in the PM? Four $25 expansions plus a $25 book seems a bit excessive for a $90 game.

Are all those "collector's resin" figures included in the base box in boardgame plastic? And are the "game upgrades" additional components, or replacements for the basic components. You'd assume they're additional, but ambiguous language is ambiguous.

I don't know what to say in reply to that except 'it depends'.

At the end of the day, just look at the available lists for the contents of your pledge and run with that. so, for example, the bgplastic of the original heroes are in the box but you can additionally buy the resin versions as well.

However the upgraded versions are not in the box and are only available as collectors resin.

Its worth saying that the Return of Valendor is included in the dungeon master level, so you only need to buy 3 expansions.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
For what its worth I'm going with

Dungeon Master

Infernal Crypts
The Tyrant of Halpi
The warlord of Galahir
Black Fortress

Acrylic Counters
Resin Counters

Legendary heroes of Renown
Legendary heroes of dolgarth
Legendary heroes of mantica

Funny bone
Ravenna
Gunn

And maybe the critter pack too

What do you mean by "upgraded versions"? Different stats, or just nicer resin models?

It looks like for the non-RPG part of the game, heroes have two statuses, the second of which is "Legendary". So in theory when you reach that point and flip over the stat card you could use the resin model that I assume will match the artwork.

It doesn't bother me enough to order the resins myself (which is odd as I'm generally quite completionist, but whatevs).

Yes, the resins are different "legendary" sculpts of the basic heroes - aside from different poses (I'd assume!), this means more eyepatches, flowing robes, crowns, beards, spikey helmets, codpieces.

For sheer content, I'd go for the two $25 expansions with minions (Infernal Crypts & Warlord). The book is simply a hardcover that combines the Adventurer's Companion (the RPG part of the game in the base box) and Dungeon Journal (all of the Kickstarter Exclusive scenarios you're also getting), just like the Mars Attacks and Deadzone hardcovers.

If you want to push to $200 in total (Crypts, Warlord, Dragon & Black Fortress + some $10 critters or tokens or something), you get the $30 hardcover book added for free.

Basically.

Unlevelled models, found in the base game:

Thanks for the info, guys. I don't yet trust Mantic again enough yet that I'm willing to pay their asking price for characters or resin models based on line art. Zombie Troll shaman might be doable for 8 bucks, given that the sculpt is already out there and it's less likely to be tiny than the average Mantic figure.

So.. three expansions. Black Fortress and Dolgarth look pretty similar - the same scenic pieces plus some differing floor tiles? Are the BF and Dolgarth expansion set tiles unique to those sets or something - or taken from the base game? (as they seem to be "size" expansion packs rather then scenario packs)

I'd wonder if double-Dungeon Master might be a better way to get extra tiles and doors and such, especially as it comes with Valendor, and I assume the base game would come with significantly more tiles than an expansion pack?

Dolgarth is basically a double set of what already comes with the boxed game. For people who want to make extra big dungeons. I think the tiles are the primary component of those sets in terms of what you're paying for.

I'm pretty sure base game == halls of dolgarth (or whatever it's called) and the black fortress is the same size.

Yes, my understanding is that Dolgarth is an exact scenery/tile/token repeat of what comes with the base game, and Black Fortress has the same amount of scenery but a different tile set with different artwork. It also has some specific scenarios written for it in the Dungeon Journal, although I imagine that you'd largely be able to sub in the default scenery.

Double base game is a pretty good way to go, because it obviously has the biggest bang for buck ratio, and you can definitely use:

- extra tiles for custom scenarios
- extra monsters (you would now have almost the same number of orcs & demons that the paid-for expansions come with).
- doubles of heroes (you can now differentiate between normal & legendary versions with the paint job and minor conversion work).

About the only semi-redundant part would be the boss monsters, and even then you can treat one set as the named scenario characters, and another as generic leaders.
