Probably has been answered before, but I couldn't find the answer. We're new to 7th ed and were trying to answer the following questions:

1. Jump infantry (I 2) charges, makes contact, and kills all enemy models (I 4) in base to base contact during the I 10 step. During the I 4 step, do the defenders get to pile in, or since there are no models in base to base contact at the beginning of the initiative step, the combat is over?

2. Wraiths with lash whips charge a unit of termagants. During the I 4 step, termagants pile in and some get into base to base, others are within 2 inches of a model in base to base. Lash whips cause models in base to base to attack at I1. How is this handled? Do the termagants pile in at I 4, but delay their attack to I 1, if they are in base to base while termagants not in base to base get to attack normally at I 4?

Thanks.

Yay, easy questions.

1. If all the models die due to HoW, then the combat ends, and victors consolidate as normal.
2. The FAQ changed the wording for Whip Coils to affect only those in base contact at the beginning of the Fight sub-phase. So any Termagant that started in base contact is I1, all the rest (even those that Piled-In to base contact) are I4.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Pile in moves happen during the "model's initiative, and you always get one unless you were involved in a challenge, or if you made a hammer of wrath attack (since you cant pile in twice in one phase, and you were already in B2B when you made your hammer of wrath).

EDIT: didnt see that whip coil FAQ yet.

Page two of the FAQ, first question in the second column.
