We've all seen this picture around the 40k world.

Well I had a crazy idea - Why not build a dropship for my Astra Militarum force based on that picture?

It started out as a fairly small affair but kind of got out of control, at first the design I had could handle 2 sentinels and 25 guardsmen, this current design can handle FIVE (5!!!) sentinels and a lot of guardsmen (more then 25...)

Oh and this is just the cargo bay - I still need to make a power unit and bridge, not to mention at least four thrusters and some turrets. Anyhow, here she is...

It looks like a nice start and a nicely inspired design, though the drop ships were described to carry an entire regiment. That being said your smaller version, despite being fairly large is a functional port.

Probably just being a know all grognard here, but I'm pretty sure the ship in the picture is a ship-to-ship boarding craft. Rather then a dropship.


However, I do like where this is going. So please continue unabated.

It is but with that nice big door it would work as a dropship - mine will have some large downward facing thrusters on the sides to show that she's a heavy lifter.

Thank you, and it would be kind of scary if someone built a ship that could carry an entire regiment - you'd need to borrow a forklift every movement phase

Will do, I need to make a pilgrimage to one of the larger urban areas for more styrene though - she ate up my entire supply of the 1/8" sheet already...

I think I'll start on some turrets next just need to figure out a design....

That's good enough justification for me!

The downward thrusters are a good idea.

Go a little bit wider and you could add Chimeras and Leman Russes. Gives you a little more deployment flexibility...

So I found a plastic container that would make a great reactor/engine room and a little Ipod speaker that will fit inside it - Anyone here like Wagner?

I'm still experimenting with turret designs but I might have a pair of lascannon turrets built by tonight (read "in the next week" )

Kinda looks a bit like forgeworlds caestus assault ram, just a lot larger. Looking forward to seeing the finished model.

I made the first two turrets this evening, they need a lot of work but its a start, to mount anything really big the ship needs to be larger otherwise the larger turret looks out of place.

First up the lascannon special, simple, effective and very potent - I plan on giving her two of these bad boys.



The other turret mounts a tri barreled munitions launcher of some sort that will serve to offer a little explosive support to the 'droppees'


That's all for now, I still need an autocannon turret and one more lascannon special and maybe some kind of flamer thing to clear dropzones

For those munitions launchers (I just want to say torpedo tubes everytime I look at them) maybe design a sort of loading mechanism, or add something to the bottom to make it look like they can be fired at different angles?

They do need a little something, I'll do some thinking on it later.

You would use that space wolf thing as a base, if I ever get my hands on one for cheap I could see making a little something for my Scions to ride around in...

So I attached the rear power unit/reactor and came up with two turret mounts that will sport autocannons, soon she shall take to the skys...

Hey all, thanks for your comments, I have a little update.

Basically it is not a good idea to buy 5 minute epoxy at a dollar store chain - it didn't set so I need to clean it off and redo those turret mounts, at least I got the reactor fixed but its a little irritating.

I'm back with another update, now its starting to take shape, the glue finally dried, I got the cockpit figured out, and need to find another autocannon (its there somewhere...)

First of all here's where she's at.

And the thrusters, I found these at a local surplus store and they work quite well I think.




And no, it won't actually fly, though that would be awesome
