Not completely sure like the "fin" above the rune. I might get rid of it and make a more elaborate rune. Automatically Appended Next Post: Jetbike Hood
Again, probably not final. I think I'll cut of f the projections at the back corners. I'm putting together an Eldar army that uses a lot of bits from the Dark Eldar range. I'll probably convert DE jetbikes for the army, but I have a lot of Eldar ones that I bough years ago, so I wanted some DE-looking hoods to use on them.

These were from LightBeam 3D. Spendy, but very high quality. I have another set coming from Fineline Prototyping, to compare price and quality.

They look really cool. I PMed you with some a quick question, but I've been reading some of your other posts so I have a little bit better sense of what you're doing.

Why? These are finished models. Maybe not physical ones, but they are no longer works-in-progress. It seems to me that this is the most appropriate forum for these images, until there is a dedicated subforum for 3D modelling.

Well, you got me on that one. They are technically painted, but not based. (But does that mean unbased vehicles are disallowed as well?)
Guardian Backs
Made to fit with plastic guardian chest pieces. I created this to use for Aspect Warrior conversions. The part that comes up over the shoulders on the normal backpiece would interfere with some of the head designs I want to make, so I needed a plain one. I'll likely customize it for each Aspect as well.

You could also look at www.shapeways.com. They have a lot of different materials with each their own qualities.

I intend to use these as mold patterns for resin castings. They're for my personal army, but once I have the molds, I'll keep casting until I wear the molds out, and sell sets of them and try to try and offset the print cost. Shapeways can do decent resolution, but the layering is very apparent, and requires a lot of fiddly sanding. Fine for a few pieces, not so fine for a lot of them.
Anyway. If a moderator could move this thread to a different subforum, since it seems to be such a problem, that would be great.

Still does not belong in this thread. They are castings not FINSIHED models. As far as the work it's borerline copyright infringement.

The showcase is really meant for finished models in the sense of being assembled, painted, and based -- so physical models. I am sure that we will one day host a dedicated 3D modelling sub-forum as that seems to be the way of the future.

Coming soon: no-frills 3d printing! I have purchased a B9 Creator. While it is unlikely that I will be able to beat or match Shapeways for price, I will be able to match or beat them in resolution/print quality. This will both allow me to prototype customer's models to ensure that they will look good once printed, as well as print the final models to send out.
As stated, this will be no frills in order to keep the cost down. Unlike Shapeways, which uses an alcohol soluble wax to support models (which is easily rinsed away) the B9 uses physical printed supports, which must be clipped off, a lot like clipping plastic parts off of sprues. This leaves small chunks of support attached to the model, which require sanding and filing. (In some cases, clipping the support leaves a small dot, which must either be filled or sanded out.) The plan would be to rinse the resin off, clip the supports, and post-cure the prints, with any additional cleanup/sanding/filing/putty work to be done by the customer. Even so, material cost and setup labor will likely still make Shapeways the more cost effective option, though I hope to maybe come close enough that combined with the better resolution of the B9 (to be fair, though, I have not yet in person seen any models printed in Shapeways new Frosted Extreme Detail) that it's still a valuable service.
Though, I think the more important use will be for prototyping- it'll allow me to make sure your models look good when printed, and if they are multi-part, that they fit together well. I would likely include it as an optional purchase; I'll charge X dollars for the 3D modelling, and an additional Y dollars for each round of prototyping.
No idea yet on what this will cost, as I haven't yet run enough prints to get a feel for the actual cost of printing. I may also switch resins- I'm currently using a fast 3rd party resin from MakerJuice, which has given me good results, but B9 has recently added a fast black resin, which looks like it might be even better. It'd be a no-brainer, except it's almost four times the cost per liter of the MakerJuice.
Images soon!
