Very, very minor point, but most flu related deaths are in the old, young and those with compromised immune systems. Most healthy adults get through it well enough. Now I'm sure that some of that is true with Ebola as well, but it seems to have a higher mortality rate amongst its victims than the flu. Odds of getting it may be REALLY low, but if you do it is scarier than the flu.
That said, it doesn't seem like it is time to panic yet.

Well played, sir. Well played.
I must say, I was not expecting that. I very nearly spat my coffee on to my keyboard.
I must also disagree with the notion that a "scared human is the most dangerous animal." If history is any lesson, an ignorant human is by far more deadly.

Unless you're a poop snatcher, there's no reason to be afraid of the virus in the states.
Sure, you might have a problem if you don't have health insurance, but will you die? Nope. Africa is a different place medically than the rest of the world, they have people that fear doctors, that don't trust them. They still have villages that exclusively use shamans and such. So unless you're never going to have any dealing with modern medical care, just say you're a poop snatcher and move on.

Feeding everyone fear of something bad that's going to happen.
Ebola outbreak can be contain in the US within the borders of TX. Sorry Frazz and don't be alram about the 40ft Jersey barriers going upon the borders of TX and automated weapon system every 20ft.
I worry the most but not paranoid worry about some Islamic militants coming across the southern border and doing something detrimental.

It would suck having to wait two weeks sitting on your butt trying to find out if you have it though.
So you're telling me that a not easily transmitted disease that is easily traceable and contained isn't going to end civilization as we know it? You're making too much sense! Ignored!!
Also, I would like to point out (after seven pages of discussion) that one person coming down with a rare disease is not considered an "outbreak."

Let's get creative on this. D-USA and others can correct me or clarify. I am in no shape, form, or way feeding into "hysteria".
You have Islamic Militants in Africa who also are networked into main line Islamic Terror Groups
Ebola has a two week incubation period
Suicide Ebola Bombers are contaminated/infected with Ebola
Passport holders who fly into some airport in Mexico
Make it across the border
Walk into malls and spread saliva on hand rails, urine on the door handles of latrines, or where ever they can transfer body fluid to another individual
The "support team" holds him/her in a room till death. Blood the SoB dry and slap a fan in the window or something and let the blood go through a fan misting it
Throw body in a water reservoir
Just feeding into it you know

The Black Plague isn't just kept in "3 separate places" in the world, you still have cases of it happen pretty regularly all over the developed world even. The reason that it doesn't make the news is because since the bubonic and pneumonic plagues are bacterial infections, they are pretty easy to treat with antibiotics and in our days have a mortality rate way below 10%.

Wouldn't really be effective. It MIGHT kill a few people, but people who can pass on ebola are pretty obvious and tend not to be in a fit state to walk let alone go doing all of that on their own. I guess some people could help them, but it would be very high risk and Ebola is only viable for a few hours unless it is kept wet. Even then it's only a few days. It then needs to get IN to someone, through a mucous membrane or cut.
As for water supply? Chlorination of the water would kill the virus instantly. No risk of that in a western country.
People put all sorts of nasty germs all over the place when they don't wash their hands yet we don't see many cases of things like e-coli or Cholera because it is not a good vector for illness in the west. Good sanitation and basic disinfectants make it a non starter.

4 people were infected with plague in Colorado in June this year (two bubonic, two had become pneumonic). It's endemic in parts of the US.

None of the contacts have shown symptoms so far, but authorities went ahead and took the next step and tracked down the people that they had contact with as well.
So we have managed to track down and monitor people that are two degrees removed from the source patient. That is one of the huge abilities we have that is very hard to do in Africa.
