That was what Jesus told me. *shrug*

He also told me that this Texas case is actually a diversion. It's the weaponized Ebola aerosol in chemtrails that we really should be worrying about.

It is quite worrisome that many people do not seem to be taking this more seriously.

The amount of mistakes made in handling this first case are astounding. Turning the patient away, slow response on quarantining his direct contacts, improperly quarantining his contacts, not cleaning up the Vomit until days later, etc.

Now imagine if there were another 10, 20, 50 cases where there were this many mistakes made? I think the CDC would quickly be stretched quite thin and I don't believe state or county health departments would be prepared to step it up. For example here in Illinois budget cuts have made it so that the health department is very, very, slim.

I also think any sort of overconfidence in our healthcare system will only be to our detriment. Sure we may have a "first world" system (whatever that even means), but that is only as good as the weakest link which was glaring in this first case.

Also something I have noticed many people aren't bringing up is what will happen if the virus is brought to other developing countries such as India, Mexico, Philippines, etc. Do those places have the infrastructure to effectively contain an outbreak? And if an outbreak occurred there than what should be the rest of the world's response?

Theres a big difference between fear mongering and being concerned. Hand waving and mocking concerned people surely will not help the situation at all.

Terrific post and yes--I would imagine India suffering a outbreak would be catastrophic for that country. Luckily, the area of most concern in terms of a native Indian bringing home the virus--Nigeria--seems to have contained the outbreak. Still, IIRC I read an article stating there was upwards of 45,000 India natives abroad in ebola effected countries. I believe most of those are military, so that's likely a good thing. The bad thing of course, are the real challenges India has with water supply and sanitation.

You guys are still ignoring the fact that the disease doesn't spread that fast or that easily, even where conditions work against the victims. This isn't Outbreak or any other ridiculous Hollywood movie.

Seriously, I really can't wrap my head around how much well-known and documented information is just completely ignored by multiple people here just to justify "concern." So many posts here start with, "I'm not fear-mongering and I understand the disease, but..." or "I know we have it under control, but..."

Just a reminder, that "but" negates everything written before it.

Again, you're missing my point. Why on earth are we sending our young men and women into an epidemic? Thats crazy.

To help. If this was the back plague, then we would not be, but this is a disease that is only spread via bodily fluids.

Wow this post is long. I just wanted to point this out though. We do send people in to areas with the Black Plague. Because we have cured the Black Plague. In fact, it is so cheap to make the medicine that cures and prevents the Black Plague, it is unethical that places like Madagascar and even regions of the US have outbreaks of the Black Plague regularly. You never hear about it though, because the chances of it going anywhere are absolutely 0, thanks to medicine! Woo!

Carry on.

Mother of the friend of a friend from what I was told....but I never asked her name. Might actually be the lady who is quarantined in her apt now, but that would be one hell of a coincidence. I have not seen it reported, nor have I heard back from her yet. There's always the chance it was a freak out or something....or that there are unreported cases. At this point who knows?... :/

Number of confirmed cases of Ebola in the US 48 hours ago: 1
Number of confirmed cases of Ebola in the US now: 1

Hey now, nothing good will come of pointing out that 174 people died of the flu, 180 of car wrecks, or 3,287 of heart disease in that same 48 hours.

In any event, nothing has changed - you said you'd be proven right in 48 hours, and in 48 hours, the number of confirmed cases of Ebola is exactly the same, yet this is confirmation to you that you were right. I had my doubts initially but I am increasingly suspicious this whole thread was just a masterful trolling session.

Depends on who you ask, I suppose, considering some among us see fit to deem the one person traveling to Texas and getting sick an "outbreak."

I was thinking possible troll thread since page 2 or 3. One of his posts made it seem very obviously a troll post, but he edited it out (and you can see my edit in response saying "it would've made it too obvious" or something).

I mean, there is a chance he genuinely believes the world is about to end, but the way he's acted, deliberately provocatively and with insane scaremongering has made it well... difficult to take seriously. Especially his last post where he declares victory when... yeah.

It's been very pigeon on a chess board.

No dude, its not trolling. Like I said multiple times, I am genuinely concerned about this crap. I am mad as hell about the policy choices that let this happen in the first place. Of COURSE I edit my posts if I see that they don't reflect what I'm trying to state.

As for your personal attacks, the fact that you're engaging in that kind of crap as a priority over worrying/planning re: an actual problem, it boggles the mind.

Do you keep track of jihadi twitter? I don't know if I'd recommend it, but that idea has already been floated by ISIS linked accounts.

Worrying and planning? What the feth can anyone do about it? Run around screaming "ERMAGERD EBOLER WE'RE ALL GUNNA DIEEEEE!"? Wash your hands and don't touch other peoples' poop or the disease-infused blood leaking from their face. That's about it.

Alternatively you could stock up on non-perishable food and lock yourself in your house for a couple months til this all blows over.

It'd probably make your ramblings look better.

Again with the victim-hood? People explaining that you are wrong doesn't make you a victim.

Also, we already have a plan for dealing with Ebola; don't panic. Another part of my plan is in the off chance I meet someone with Ebola virus disease I won't do any of the things that can transfer the virus to me. You know, because I'm normal.

That's been my thought, also. I really liked the layering effect with the husband's mother's cousin's friend's friend catching it that pulled the rug out from under him comment a few pages back.
Yes, Ebola is nasty and scarey. The fact remains if it was as deadly as the OP makes out, half the African continent would now be depopulated.

Well for one thing I talked to all my friends and family, had them read the CDC recommendations, etc. I put hand sanitizer and extra gloves into the first aid kit that goes with me everywhere. I talked to a couple of friends about whether or not they were going to change their plans to travel into Dallas. For another thing I've signed petitions requesting more strict health screenings at transit hubs and revocation of visa's awarded in the last few weeks to persons from ebola affected nations. Maybe that isn't going to stop ebola or whatever, but it makes me feel more secure and it helps educate the folks I deal with in real life.

What do I "want"? I don't want much of anything. I'm just amazed at the sheer number of people in here that think its honestly OK or productive to engage in personal attacks just because THEY don't like the way someone says something about a really serious issue.

Cool. So maybe you could've emphasize those points in the very beginning instead of basically acting like it's the fething apocalypse and that this one guy is absolutely going to lead to a nationwide pandemic where everyone is going to die from a disease that's almost impossible to get as long as you don't smear yourself with infected bodily fluids and is pretty easy to quarantine in a nation with modern medical facilities especially because it isn't even contagious until infected people start displaying symptoms?

Spoiler:
None of those mean jack gak and frankly, some are down right detrimental to the fight against the disease.

And yes, I used the spoiler tag instead of sarcastically writing SPOILER ALERT because I thought it would funnier.

I absolutely think this has the potential to turn into a regional epidemic within the US, and could easily become a nationwide pandemic. Our globalized transportation network is the perfect system to spread an aggressive vector. I think that the tongue-in-cheek comments Frazzled and Jihadin have made regarding Southern border security are something to consider. I think that this is a big deal and it frightens me that so many obviously intelligent (Lets face it, total dumbasses don't paint minis) people think its no big deal.

I don't care if people think thats paranoid or tinfoil hatish. At all.

Sigh...

You just don't get it, do you? Ebola is not aggressive nor easily spread. Eleven pages after this was explained to you and you still just fething ignore it.

This isn't the movie Outbreak... We won't need Rain Man to fly in and save us all at the last minute.

We won't need Rain Man to fly in and save at the last minute.

Scooty, you are wasting your time that could be better spent watching paint dry. This guy is either trolling or so outragiously paranoid, no reasoning will make any difference. When he has to make up stories to push his story, you know there is no point in continuing with him.
