If you get the Quadrivalent, it's an inactivated influenza strain and you won't get the flu. I would wait however, as I feel most clinics offer the flu shot too early.

The nasal mist has a weakened virus that could, possibly, make you sick although it is highly unlikely. As for the shots:
"Can the flu shot give me the flu?
No, a flu shot cannot give you the flu. Flu vaccines that are administered with a needle are currently made in two ways: the vaccine is made either with a) flu vaccine viruses that have been ‘inactivated’ and are therefore not infectious, or b) with no flu vaccine viruses at all (which is the case for recombinant influenza vaccine). In randomized, blinded studies, where some people got flu shots and others got saltwater shots, the only differences in symptoms was increased soreness in the arm and redness at the injection site among people who got the flu shot. There were no differences in terms of body aches, fever, cough, runny nose or sore throat."
It's always people getting a seasonal cold and creaking out that they got "the flu from a shot" even though there is no way to actually get he flu. They are not as bad as anti-vaccination folks, but they annoy me.

To be fair, if he or his family received the LAIV vaccination--they could experience mild, flu like symptoms--although it's important to note that it does not cause systemic flu, as the attenuated viral load you receive via the LAIV spray is engineered to not survive the warmer areas of the body. However, everyone should get the flu vaccination--even if you are healthy. Herd immunity is a thing and not only are you helping protect yourself from influenza, you're helping protect the more vulnerable members of your community.

My dad's side of the family are known to have a high rate of beta thalassemia.
He has it, his mother had it, and two of his brothers have it. My oldest cousin also likely has it, and while I've never been tested for it myself, I probably have it as it would explain why I've always been perpetually tiny and unable to gain weight. (I barely scratch 5'3" and it's a cause for celebration the odd time I hit 106lbs!)
All of us get good and sick when we get a flu shot, hence why we tend to never get them anymore! Over the past decade, then only time I've come down with the flu, was during the H1N1 outbreak a few year back.

Chloroquine is a hell of a drug . Ironically, chlorquine causes African Americans (most) to itch severely--and African Americans are much more likely to carry the sickle cell trait--which is attributed to an evolutionary adaptation against malaria. Would be interesting to see how that all ties together in a genome.

Why not post the rest of the vomiting story?
The possibility of a new case was knocked down later Saturday by the New Jersey Department of Health.
In a statement, it said that University Hospital "in coordination with federal, state and local public health officials evaluated two individuals who arrived" Saturday afternoon.
"The symptoms of one individual were found to be consistent with another, minor treatable condition unrelated to Ebola," the health department said. "The second individual, who was traveling with the patient, was asymptomatic."
And I'm glad that the esteemed representative is so concerned about Ebola that he is only going to wait two weeks before holding a hearing. Congress might end up incubating faster than the virus!

That makes a lot of sense for keeping the batteries from exploding on you. Yep, my dad's side of the family from his parents on back are all pure Italians. I know my nona, his mother was from the south.
It seems though that our family only has mild beta thalassemia, as no one to our knowledge has ever needed blood transfusions for example to deal with it. (not sure about our relatives back in Italy though)
Still, we've often wondered if the disorder might help affect they vaccinations work on us, as it's just really weird how we stay much healthier when not getting the seasonal flu shot, yet get really sick when we do get it!
Admittedly, I was the only staffer at our GW store who got sick with H1N1, and I did end up in the ER. (and I'm still fething pee-ed off at the idiot nurse who, even *after* being told not to take a normal blood sample, but rather the amount you'd normally take from a child due to my tiny 100lbs nothingness, took two full vials & caused me to nearly pass out shortly afterwards!)

Those are some pretty rad homes that got built. I'd halfway be inclined to head over your way to help you on a project like that.
There are some drawbacks, though, as stated here:

I think those could be taken care of, though.
