On a very, very limited tangent: I never understood how anyone could have a negligent discharge when cleaning their gun, which appears to be one of the more common methods Darwin uses to add a little chlorine to the pool, so to speak.

I later learned that several common, popular firearms actually have pulling the trigger as the first step of field stripping them. I still think those people are pretty dumb because you really need to check the chamber before that, but now I at least sort of see how it could happen - none of the guns i've owned or stripped required that step.

Ummm....no.

Every gun is always loaded. First rule of gun safety.

If mag fed, drop mag, clear chamber (pull back bolt, rack slide etc).

If cylinder fed, open cylinder/gate, remove rounds.

Tube fed, cycle action and/or clear tube.

Though to be honest, I have seen some people get it backasswards, which result in ND.

I can see how you'd be distracted into believing so, but the first step is dropping the magazine, second step is clearing the chamber - no matter what the scantily clad chick says. If people are too dumb to do the first two, then Darwin steps in and sifts the gene pool in step 3.

I lived by the Poo Pond of Kandahar for over a year. Think the Ebola have a very tough time trying to get me or you. Besides it has to survive the hail of gunfire just to get through the door

What we need is for cool heads without prejudice to decide on a logical course of action. Unfortunately, political correctness and hubris ("hey, we are a modern society it cant happen here") of the hive mind are in the drivers seats for now and are effing it up bad.

According to the papers, the Spanish nurses had defective equipment.

Agreed. People are looking for the worst, while overlooking the fact that it may have been down to simple, human error.

And that's all it would take. Ebola isn't Superviraldeath: The Movie. It's not Nurgle's Rot. It's a nasty virus that can be spread in a limited number of ways, but is dangerous enough that a single moment's carleessness can cause infection. All it takes is a little derp and you're bleeding from your eyes. It does not mean the virus has mutated into a form that can penetrate protective clothing.

And people are freaking out that a health care worker became infected and then become scared that it means that they are at risk as well. But we are talking about a population who has to be in constant contact with the infected body fluids of a patient vs a population that has zero reason to be in contact with infected body fluids.

This is offtopic so I don't want to dwell on it too much, but what I meant was that several firearms have you pull the trigger as part of the field strip process, which was something I was unaware of until pretty recently - I've never owned any guns that have you actuate the trigger during stripping.

I probably could have been more specific, but if you want to hyper-pedantically point out THAT'S NOT REALLY STEP ONE and I find at least one how-to guide that has "dry fire the gun" under the heading "step one", then I'm not going to let you move the goalposts either since I am correct under the original, exact premise as specified.

It might be best if we both just agree that clearing the chamber should be step one, while acknowledging that there exist instructions to the contrary, and move on to Ebola.

Could people please stop calling her a nurse? Because she actually isn't one nor does she have any medical training, she is a nursing assistant, that is someone that is contracted to usually just do clean up work, deliver meals, that sort of thing.

Why they let someone that doesn't have any type of medical training, much less any type of training is this specific situation, into direct contact with the patients is anybody's guess...

That article says that those people have tested negative for the virus on their first test and are awaiting results for the confirmation test.
