Some of the more fun, but not cartoon shows that I used to like were Bill Nye the Science Guy, and Beakman's World (BW being much the same as Bill Nye...with a dude in a giant rat costume)

But yeah... Saturday mornings were great... Get up early enough to get some cartoons right before College Football kicked off (it rained quite a bit where I was)

As much as I loved cartoons back in the day - and I did - Avatar is probably the best overall cartoon that has even been. It's definite that it's that and Gargoyles in the number one and two spots, but damned if I can be sure.

nope.

batman always wins.

No way, that was maybe top ten material. Avatar and Gargoyles are both better. Hell, I think Batman Beyond was the best Batman cartoon.

You can think that, of course, but you would be wrong. Horribly wrong. Killed the dinosaurs wrong. I'm just trying to say you aren't correct in this instance.

Wait wait...is someone seriously claiming that Batman Beyond was better than Batman: The Animated Series?

My secret fortress at the base of the volcano!

I have fond memories of setting my alarm for 6:00 AM on Saturday morning so that I could get up in time to see Robotech on the local UHF station. Why 6 AM? Because the UHF station knew it couldn't compete with the cartoons on the big 3 networks, so it moved it's shows to a pre- 8 AM time slot so that it didn't have to compete. I'd have to creep downstairs to avoid waking up the rest of the house and watch the show with the volume juuuuuust loud enough that I could hear it. Afterwards, I'd creep back up the stairs and go back to bed until 8 AM when the "mainstream" cartoon shows started up. Then my hoop would be parked in front of the TV until 11 AM when "It's Academic" came on (and nobody watched that show, ever... not even the people who were on it).

Oh, and Batman TAS > Batman Beyond. It's just simple math, man.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

I'm with Ahtman,
"The Animated Series" is by far the best Batman cartoon, one of the best screen batmans and maybe one of the best non-comedy American cartoon series of all times. Went back and watched some of them recently and was really impressed. Unlike most of my other childhood cartoon favorites it's still really enjoyable viewing as an adult.

It still stands as a triumph and not only for the way it brings film noir to animation with surprisingly mature plotlines and deep characters. It's also a Streamline Moderne (late Art Deco) design masterpiece that was hand drawn, unlike nearly all current shows which are computer animated. Further, it was also one of the last cartoons to have it's own full orchestral score by (and later built upon the work of) Danny Elfman with themes from Burton's Batman films.

There's lots of great animation being made today, but I don't think we'll ever see a cartoon show quite like "Batman the Animated Series" again.
