Finished my (first) Dimachaeron. Obviously not painted in my armies colors, I simply got him to paint and sell for the fun of it.

These pics are pre-light box, I've got one arriving tomorrow and will hopefully get some more accurate photos, my camera is light finicky. I'll post pics tomorrow to show what a difference it can (hopefully) make.

CC welcome.

As far as the painting goes, this one did NOT go as I planned, but I learned a lot from it and its kind of the point. I wanted to bring what I learned from my Daemons to bugs, and sort of made it happen.
I wanted to keep the very Todd McFarlane-esque degree of colors which I think I did, although my original plan to have a very dark skin with very muted reds didnt pan out the way I envisioned. He'll
be on ebay tomorrow if anyone needs a big bug.

Thanks man, the carapace came out exactly as I wanted. The skin not so much, but thats what makes painting interesting.

I love that you seem to have eschewed that whole cartoon look and gone for something that looks nightmarish. The color choice is strong, the style fitting. Looking forward to light box pics.

The closer I look, the better that paint job gets.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

^ Thanks to both of you. I still consider myself new to painting these last two years, so its good to get positive feedback.

Thanks, I've got three Malanthropes on the way and Ill repeat this scheme on one of them. The other two will be something new.

It's good to get a positive response from my second bug design.

Firstly, the mini is awesome, great job, and all that obvious stuff. As far as the pics go, the lightbox helped but you need a proper backdrop. The all black backdrop gives your camera a tough time getting the right contrast, especially when you get a streak white light on the side like some of them do. Use a backdrop with a little more texture that's toned down grey or brown. Also, maybe try keeping the camera back and using the zoom a bit, but not digital zoom. That evens out the mini in the camera's field of vision and allows it to take in more detail, but digital zoom will just blow up the pixels.

Also, it might help to keep the camera stationary with tripod or something, and arrange the mini in front of the camera. It looks like you did the opposite and moved the camera around the mini, it'll help with consitency.

Awesome advice man, some questions on that. The box came with white, black, and red, so the two choices I have are obvious without going out and buying cloth. Would I be better off using white or does it create the same issue?
Also, I'm not home to check but Im pretty sure I only have digital zoom. I know that I get the best clarity and less noise using its ultra close 1cm mode, but that makes the tripod unusable. The full body shots were done in the macro setting and with a tripod and they are still quite
noisy, I dont think this camera likes indoor lighting of any time. It's one of those Pentax unbreakable cameras (baby-proof, I call it) that you can drop or submerge, and looks far better outdoors. I have to make due with it until next year though, so any advice is welcome.
