Back in the day before multiple monitors and multi-tasking computers were one screen bricks there was only a few ways to look at forums and bulletin boards. Sometimes it was full screen and other times varied depending if you were working on another document. Back when the monitor resolution was 800x600 that was difficult but it became easier once it started to scale up to 1020 to 1280 and now multiple screens of 1920+.

It got me wondering how other people view websites. Since my setup (depending if I'm at work or home) consists of 2-3 monitors, usually work is on one monitor. My web browser(s) and multiple windows are on the other one and they are layered at roughly 1263 x 857. I was curious if people are like me or if they just have one window open full screen or use it at a smaller size so they can work on other things, etc.

What size do you have your browser window set up as? How are you using looking at the forums and websites?

Full screen - but it's only one tab that I have open out of several, so I can switch between them.

(I'm usually browsing several fora at the same time).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Never used Internet Explorer, I use both Chrome and Firefox and both monitors are 1920x1080. I actually know the size of the browser window because of add-ons in Chrome and Firefox that let you see your window size or automatically resize to set dimensions if needed. They are layered because I have to monitor two chat channels and emails as part of work. On the main monitor screen, Chrome takes about 3/4 of the screen with HipChat window open with email on the second tab. I'll get notified when emails come in so I only have to switch over to it. Underneath that I have our companies ticket system so I can monitor traffic on it, eclipse open for programming. Below that in the corner I have our call system so I can monitor everyone else and their tasks. Then I have another window with Pidgeon so I can chat with others. They are layered so I can switch quickly between windows or see if status changes on another window.

On the other screen I have another Chrome window with another set of emails logged in. Usually have the forums tabbed into it on Dakka, Kickstarter, timeclock status and google drive for document transfers. It takes up the uppper portion of my screen, layered over the firefox window so I can easily switch between them. I have firefox open because there are certain cookies and another email that I'm logged into that don't go into my work folders and stored on a separate drive.

I never realized so many people browse full screen... that is interesting. It takes too much to alt + tab or switch around to go to the window I need, than it is with me simply clicking it. Not to mention I can't monitor everything without laying them. I usually have another 2-4 windows that are SSH connections (putty) into different servers or locations and doing a couple scp file transferes with WinSCP too.
