Looking for some more detailed information on some of the fictional materials, metals and alloys found in the Warhammer 40k Universe, specifically things like rarity, how hard they are to mine/alloy togeather/turn into something useful.

Right now I'm specifically interested in materials used by the Imperium of Mankind and by extension the SPEESH MAHREENZ Adeptus Astarte, but I will get into the metal and materials of the other races at some point.

Things I am interested in include but aren't limited too: Deuterium, Plasteel, Rockcrete, Ceramite and Promethium, Holy Promethium is easy to explain.

Any lore articles or bits of knowledge anyone has would be greatly appreciated, it's related to an on going project in Minecraft I've had for quite some time.

Deuterium isn't fictional. It is an isotope of hydrogen that has one proton and one neutron in its nucleus, as opposed to one proton and no neutron as is the usual. It makes up approximately 0.0156% (or on a mass basis: 0.0312%) of all the naturally occurring hydrogen in the oceans. Which makes it sound like there isn't a lot of it but there is a lot of hydrogen in the ocean. As for refinement,

Here is the Wikipedia page.

I can't help you with the others though.

Apparently Plasteel is a real thing too, but different to the scifi versions. Irl it's a composite of fibreglass and steel.

If you want information regarding ferrocrete and how it acts in the WH40K universe, read Gav Thorpes Ravenwing - book, which tells a story of some... yeah, you guessed it, Ravenwing Space Marines.

I swear on every second page there´s:

-Ferrocrete crashing down on someone
-Ferrocrete shattering
-Ferrocrete splintering
-Ferrocrete bursting
-Ferrocrete being crushed
-Ferrocrete flying through the air
-Ferrocrete walls
-Ferrocrete barricades
-Ferrocrete bouncing off the walls
-Ferrocrete walls firing bolters at ferrocrete barricades who are in turn taking cover behind their ferrocrete relatives

When the reading the book I was literally thinking "could you add any more ferrocrete to this story?"

Ferrocrete sounds just like concrete (materials-wise), but with more "WOW! Super science-y!"

Also, ceramite makes me think of some sort of dental ceramic composite, but that's probably because of school

There's promethium too.

Burny, burny promethium.

Ferrocrete is "ferrous concrete". That is, it's a metal that you pour like concrete. It is why everything in 40K looks like it's metal... because it is. Metallic stone.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

IIRC Ferrocrete existis IRL (there was a patent)

It was reinforced concrete mix or something.

How useful would metallic stone be though?

Ask the Imperium, they seem to make a lot of stuff out of it.

They also throw guardsman at any and every problem, and consider a 1000 to 1 death to kill ratio a successful outcome, if that says anything... lol

Also adding to list is Adamantium, the stable fantasy "uber metal" for as long as anyone can remember, opinions and input, does everyone thing it is a base metal (aka you mine Adamantium Ore to make Adamantium Ingots) or is it an alloy of some kind?

Also being Deuterium is real metal anyone know if it comes from sources other then heavy water? Is there (either IRL or in Warhammer 40k) such a thing as Deuterium Ore?

Adamantium is mined. Deuterium isn't actually a metal, though it is a real isotope.

Has it ever been explained in lore how Deuterium is extracted and refined to make useable? Given this for a Minecraft mod (which I am curious of anyone is interested in) I want to make it a reasonably expensive but not super complicated process to create Deuterium and materials like it, thinking late game since Deuterium is key material in bolter rounds.

The problem I always run into with my grand ideas is that depth without complexity is hard to achieve.

How they get that into an armor-piercing metal that goes into a bolter round, I have no idea.

Then again, according to "Rocks Aren't Free", Imperial starships run on hydrogen peroxide.

Really?

Those space marines must have very clean engines then.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not....

Ferrocrete, as far as I can tell anyways, is basically just ultra-hard concrete. I imagine it's poured like concrete, and sets up as strong as solid reinforced steel.

Here it is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrocement (cret being short for cement anyway) :/ some one had brought this up the last time we where talking about fictional mats
