Howdy folks,
I've taken some time away from the hobby, not by choice, but am starting to get back into the swing of things. I have a question however.....I thought we were on 6th edition these days, however when I look at lists lately I see 7th edition being referenced here and there. So....are we in 6th or 7th edition?

7th. For some reason, GW decided to release 7th edition two-ish years early.

7th edition... 6th edition was scattered over several books and people complained constantly - so 7th edition came out to basically unify the books, and people complained constantly (that it came out too soon).

We're in 7th edition. 6th edition only lasted about a year and a half to two years, instead of the typical four. They aren't wholly different though, and it's not a radical change between the two.

Actually, to be fair, I think the 7th edition book set costs the same as the 6th edition book.
So....if I have the Dark Vengeance set of rules and codex boos that came out shortly after...I need to get new ones again?
When did you buy the Dark Vengeance set? I think when 7th came out they updated it to contain the 7th edition rulebook. If you bought it within the past couple months, you're probably fine. If you bought it eight or more months ago, then you've got the old book.

The seventh edition is much better than the sixth.
More complete and a psychic phase which can be fun.

Yes, although there is a free, full color, mini rulebook (identical in all respects except print size) that comes with 3 different box sets.

6th was $75USD on release from what I found on Amazon as its original list price.
7th is $100USD.

Huh. On the US GW site, the 7th edition rule set is $85, and I'm almost positive that 6th was $85, too.

Agreed, 7th is still tremendously flawed, but in balance I think it fixed more than it broke. Really don't think there's anything wrong with 7th that a thorough FAQ wouldn't sort out in the majority (the shooting/assault balance would be about the only thing that couldn't AFAICS)
The codexes are where the issues lie.

6th edition codexes are still valid (7th is basically 6.5). If your rulebook has a cover that's full artwork of Dark Angels (Master guy in the middle flanked by dudes) then it's the 6th edition book and is outdated. If he is mostly white with a red border and a single Dark Angel marine looking down the barrel of his boltgun, it's the 7th edition book.

I don't think anyone has had a second book since the hardback switch have they?
So basically if you're book is HB it's the latest version.

Being scattered over several books was the least of the complaints about 6th.
People complained about 7th because as well as coming too soon, it didn't actually fix most of the things that people were complaining about. Automatically Appended Next Post:
No, Space Marines haven't received a 7th ed book yet.

My complaint is that I bought all the 6th ed expansion books and had them invalidated before even getting a single game with them...
Now I just get the books second hand to save money since letting GW have money is a really bad idea.
That and they made the new codex format terrible.

Well let's be honest here, in Dakka 40K general, the one constant over every edition is, complaining. When even the mods are in on it, it becomes pretty systematic.

The malapropisms are rife today!
If you're going to dismiss it as simply complaining, kindly provide reasonable counter points to the points people are raising.
Or, you know, stop complaining about complaining in a response to a post that wasn't even particularly complaining.

I'm not complaining about complaining... nor am I attempting to stop you. That said, dakka 40k general, IS overflowing with complain posts. My personal opinion is, that complaining to such a level, about a miniatures game, is rather insane but clearly most of dakka 40k general disagrees haha.

Ok well look, I realize this is getting off topic but I just don't agree at all Insaniak. You are totally biased in your 'mod power' when it comes to deciding when a thread has 'run its coarse'. For many years, negativity has reigned on this particular forum. People call Warseer, "Whineseer" but it has nothing on this forum.
