So I was under the impression that if a model was being shot in the back, they could turn around automatically if they survived. Now it appears you need to try as an ARO to make a FTF dodge roll. Am I missing something, this seems kind of stupid so I am sure I am (hope so anyway).

I read it like you do. A model moves up into an enemies Zone of Control and makes a BS attack on his flank, then enemy model must perform a FtF on the BS attack, then after that is settled, rolls a change facing on a PH -3.
Reading over this and zone of control, seems wise to fire on an enemy outside of 8 inches so he can not perform a change facing maneuver unless one of his friends can see you and put up an alert.

I dont think this is right, change facing is an ARO you do when someone is in your control zone, it's basically a -3 PHY dodge that lets you FtF instead of being shot in the back without mercy

I don't want it to work that way, but as I am reading it, if you stay outside LOF and ZOC of your target then you can dump orders into their back and they can't turn around. Seems....wrong.

Yea it appears they made changing facing a form of blind dodge rather then simply a model repositioning. Not sure I like that. It makes stealth crazy good.

It's a blind dodge, they probably should have just called it that.
Anyone know if you can turn around if shot in the back from outside ZoC after you survive the attack?

I was looking for something, but so far haven't found any luck.

Take a look at Warning! rule, page 45 iirc.

Well look at that Thanks!
So going back to the OP, yes you do get to turn and face if you survive.

Thats what my initial concern was. I am find with the blind dodge even if it's hard to explain. But it's even harder to rationalize that a guy will sit their order after order while being shot in the back from outside ZOC. It makes flanking TAGs an awesome strategy I suppose. And this is why you should always scroll the entire page folks.
Thanks guys. I feel stupid because I remember reading that rule now but 3 nights of rules digesting has probably been a bad idea

The only part that doesn't make much sense to me is not automatically changing facing if you're shot in the back from outside LoF and ZoC and pass your ARM roll. That just seems the logical thing to do. I do like Change Facing being a blind dodge though. edit - pays to read the whole thread before responding. Good to see they left in change facing after passing an ARM roll, but just moved it.

Since warning! requires that the model hasn't performed an ARO, this creates a situation where someone attacks your model form behind in ZOC and you try to change facing/blind dodge and fail, preventing you from turning and giving the enemy another butt shot, right? Or am I missing something?

Seems the case. If being shot fro behind in ZoC you can either try and Change Facing ARO (on a FtF roll) or wait and use Warning. Change Facing is obviously a gamble - you win the roll and the shot misses (and you now face them), but if you fail you give up the chance of using Warning, so could end up getting shot in the back again.
