This is mainly for the Chaos Daemons players out there, though I guess anyone can answer
If you could only field daemons from one particular god, which would it be and why?
And by this I mean, your troops choices and elites and HQ etc etc would all have to be from that one god.
From a fluff perspective I kinda like Nurgle, so:
Nurglings/plaguebearers
Plague Drones
Herald of Nurgle (obviously)
... Well, I dont know if nurgle has a specific heavy support, but you get the idea.
Lots of FNP and toughness, but all slow and purposeful. Ups and downs. Also no heavy support which sucks. But papa nurgle.
So yeh, which would you guys choose?

From a fluff perspective, being a servant of slaanesh is probably the most comfy of all. Youre neither a blood crazed butcherer (or one who gets butchered for sport) nor are you a plague and pus ridden bloated zombie or a horribly mutated tentacled abomination with multiple eyes and changing forms every other minute.
Plus slaanesh embodies human desires that are the most sound (ambition, greed, carnal lust, striving for flawlessness and excellence, mastery of the senses etc.) compared to uncontrolled bloodlust or insane plotting, betrayal and scheming or virulent plague bringing unlife

Remember this is also about which units you would field, not just the fluff. Slaneesh does get fleet, rending, and +3" movement so those rules are pretty darn good lol.

Fleet and +3" movement makes for a ridiculously agile unit on the battlefield. And Fleet also lets you re-roll charge range if you didnt use it during the shooting phase. Plus rending means you can hypothetically wound upto T10 on 6s.

Papa Nurgle is definitely my favorite chaos god.
HQ
GUO and/or Heralds
FA
Plague Drones
Blight Drones [FW]
Troops
Nurglings
HS
Daemon Prince
Plague Hulk [FW]
Any of the Chaos Gods can make a reasonably good list now though. Khorne is the weakest though.
Slaanesh
HQ
Keeper of Secrets
Heralds
Elites
Fiends of Slaanesh
FA
Seekers
Troops
Daemonettes of Slaanesh
HS
Daemon Prince
Soul Grinder
Tzeentch
HQ
Fateweaver
Lord of Change
Heralds
FA
Screamers of Tzeentch
Troops
Pink Horrors of Tzeentch
HS
Daemon Prince
Burning Chariot of Tzeentch
Khorne
HQ
Herald
FA
Hounds
HS
Blood Slaughterer
Notice I skipped most of the Khorne units? That is because they are pretty terrible. It is a sad fact. The units I listed above are all very good and when used in the correct combinations can make for some brutal lists.

"Remember this is also about which units you would field, not just the fluff."
I field units for fun and fluff (which is why I never win), so despite the fact that I really like Tzeentch as a god, I'm not a fan of Pink/blue Horrors.... So, I'd field Nurgle.

Khorne.
All of his daemons have reasonably high-initiative.
He also has two interesting super-heavy daemon-engines, one of which is an apocalyptic blast that makes your opponent re-roll any successful saves and the other of which gets extra attacks, causes psykers to peril if they target it and can move 3D6 inches in its charge distance.
He also is the bane of psykers. Especially flesh-hounds.
The Skull-Cannon isn't too shabby either, allowing your troops to charge whatever is hit by its blast without a initiative penalty for not having grenades. (Its also the only daemon artillery). The thing also a chariot so D6 Hammer of Wraths and then attacks from the blood-letter crew during a fight.
He also forgoes the psychic phase, cutting down slightly on the amount of time per-game.

What do you find wrong with Skull Cannons?
Bloodletters are indeed depressingly poor though. The immortal servants of the Blood God should really be tougher than a bunch of mortals in flak jackets.

You'd think that daemons would be tougher than fleshlings, except they aren't in their realm - think "Fish Out of Water".

It isn't any single specific problem but more a number of little problems that knock them down. Honestly terrible is an overstatement for the skullcannon and if used with the right synergy skullcrushers can actually be pretty good.
*AP5 means alot of the stuff that you want to kill is surviving
*Range 36" is pretty short on such a fragile vehicle. Combine this with all the other really great Khorne units are T5 or lower and the skull cannon puts itself in extreme danger to shoot. It is even open topped. RIP
* Str 8 is decent for tank hunting but you cannot really get enough shots in a list to hunt tanks. If you could take units of them they would actually be better.
*The price is not actually that bad but there are better choices to do everything the skull cannon can do. They just belong to other chaos gods. In an all khorne list the unit actually suffers somewhat from not having stuff to cover it's weaknesses.
The dreadskull ability is neat but it is extremely dependent on what type of terrain you tend to use. I tend to play with a lot of LoS blockers but not a lot of difficult terrain.

I love my Khorn daemons as the Bloodcrushers have swept many a unit of space marines but Slaanesh has my vote for speed to help with the fragility. I also love the look of exalted chariot - they're very difficult to get into combat but for their cost they make nice distraction units or devastating glass cannons when rolled right.

Well, I run all Tzeentch but my CD really only exist to supplement my CSM primary. If I were to do an all CD army it'd be Slaanesh for the fleet, high ini, and the rending. Those universals leave the other gods in the dust.

How popular is chaos daemons as a 40k army? I mean they have the same range (give or take) of models used across 40k and warhammer, so they make sales from both groups, but i didnt think it was as popular for a 40k army in general.
Not sure if thats motivation to add supplements to boost sales, or make supplements for more popular armies to increase profits there (as more people would be likely to buy the supplement books).
Plus theyd have to do 4 supplements, one for each daemon. And then, how would the supplements interact in one CD army? Knowing gw itll end up with a load of "unforseen" overpowered combinations lol

I am unsure. I know daemons are popular as allies for chaos space marines. I thought they were more popular in 40k given their 40k aspect receives more attention, such as the FW Daemon Lords (Anngrath), Daemon Princes (Uraka and Mamon) and their war-engines (Brass Scorpion, Blight-Drones, Decimator).
Also, what about a supplement for daemonic warbands like the Mudervaul or the Soul Maw ? GW seems to like doing sub-factions for their various factions.

I wouldnt complain. I like some of the daemony aspects. Id like them to see some supplement love. But arent a lot of the figures still very old? I thought they were still waiting for a load of plastic updates. Imagine that will happen first.

Yeah, I would run Slaanesh right now.
In previous editions, it seemed like everything was about Khorne and getting a couple Bloodthirsters on the field. I remember playing a CSM army back around 3rd edition and bringing MSU spam just so I had extra aspiring champions for summoning.
But... times change. I don't just like Slaanesh for the rules, I started using lots of Noise Marines in my CSM army and would really want a way to compliment them.

I can see reasons for running all of them. From a purely gameplay perspective, Slaanesh and Tzeentch are best; Nurgle's troops are too slow really and Khorne... Yeah.
I really like all four gods. I went with Slaanesh this time; ask me again tomorrow, I'll give you a different answer...
