Space Marines and Terminators. They're the reason why I got into 40k and painting, and I still love painting them.

External to the hobby, Space Marines--more specifically, Ultramarines--are probably the most iconic image. Internally, the Deathwing: Terminator Armor, Dreadnoughts, Land Raiders, Space Hulk, and bone-colored armor emblazoned with a crimson, winged, broken sword... Doesn't get any better than that, IMO.

Battle Titans (and scout titans). Because ridiculously huge mecha with guns.

Also, almost everything Battlefleet Gothic. The aesthetic of Imperial Navy, Space Marine and Chaos warships is just stunning, and the awesome artwork in the Shield Of Baal books and Extermination just irks me more that the game doesn't exist anymore...

Iconic in its own way

Whoa. Suddenly all the Marine Scouts will be waiting to see if Sister Hotlibrariana will let her hair down an extra eighth of an inch, take off her glasses and read the... inspiring... parts of the Lectio.

IT'S STEALTH TRAINING DON'T JUDGE THEM IT'S TOTALLY NATURAL

Also, the Beakie is the iconic creation for me.

I do hope the Dark Eldar ships aren't in amongst the BFG love lol. Turds with blades on is how I'd sum them up.

For me it's Space Marines- humanity's finest trying to turn back the tide of Xenos, Traitors and Daemons. Epic.

As for iconic things, the Marines come to mind first, but beyond them I think every faction has their own iconic things. Some that come to my mind: The Screamerfex, Saint Celestine, Deathwing Terminators, the Monolith, Thousand Sons (who are still pretty well known despite never seeing table time due to being crap rules wise), ect. I could probably think of more, but right now that's just the list that came to mind.

Space Marines for sure...and the Space Catholic look of the Imperium in general. It's what separates a marine from the generic "guy in big armor" that so many other franchises have. Purity seals, scrolls, latin script, baroque embellishments...the ancient, war-torn look of it.

as a kid though I'd have to say Orks is what drew me in. The old Orky dreadnoughts especially. They just looked so crazy.

I also think the Chaos symbology is fairly iconic. I know a couple people who have gotten tattoos. Not my thing, but if people are permanently tattooing stuff on themselves, that says something.

Most iconic creation of GW’s? That’s a tough one. I mean there’s so much to choose from.

How about GW’s most original creation? There’s a lot to choose there as well, right? No? Maybe not?

Out of pure curiosity, which of the two came first? The Squig, or the Cacodemon?

Also, which of the two is the cutest one? The right answer has to be these guys.

Not sure, the the squig has tiny legs, is part mushroom part animal rather than a deamon, and do not shoot fireball but rather eat stuff (and people), so they are still different .

I think the squig. Because of the tiny legs. Or because I am more familiar with them. I have a conversion of a squig with the wings of a blood-thirster. And another one with steam-punk mechanical wings wings made out of some old dwarf gyrocopter.

Il let this image answer the question in my stead.

Also the positioning of the lower gun on this has been called iconic to many (if not a reason to come up with a creative answer when a kid asked "why is that gun there ?"

Halberds, and the curve of a space marine shoulder pad.

But seriously, I'd second the Imperial fleet in BFG. The image shown above, and all the other fantastic art that came out of it, will stick with me long after I finish playing GW games.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Space Marines.

They have endured longer than anything else.

Imperial ships? Orks? Genestealers? All of those have undergone visual revamps over the years.

But Space Marines have barely changed in 25 years

generally when you say warhammer 40k your average person does not think "titans" furthermore. if you say "that table top wargame with the huge mecha with guns" most people proably think battletech

And more importantly, hes firing them both in the same turn. Though he seems to be setting fire to the ground below them, so im not sure hes helping.

Also, why the random white dude? Is he lost? Too embarrased to ask directions at this point.

Plus theres a guy in the background just shooting his gun in the air like a redneck. Imperiums finest indeed.

The Apothecary, of course! (The banner gives the assumption of a command squad present). But yeah, lol, that redneck.

On topic - to quote others, without a doubt, the Space Marine.

I believe he's meant to be an Apothecary? Also, these marines ALL have a case of bad posture

The chainsword. Nothing quite lets you instantly know it's from the grimdark than sticking a chainsword on it. Or chainaxe. Chainhalberd. Chainbayonet. Yeah, it's kinda silly, but that's part of what makes it so iconic. Plus, it just looks so cool.

Indeed. It was one of the things that really jumps out from Ultramarines and the Space Marine game is when you get to see a chainsword used in an animated setting.... it's hard not to wince.
