Why is the maelstrom one going to be huge?

I haven't seen a single thing in that thread that looks exciting to me. Brand new IPs from brand new companies don't typically do better than established companies.

And the models arent really on the same level as, say, raging heroes, so I guess I don't get why it'll be "huge".

Personally, I thought you were going more with the "populated by the dirty unwashed masses" analogy

I actually had a few unfavorable comparisons, but I decided not to get baned.

Anyway,

1. Plastic robots.

2. Novels indicate they aren't half-assign the background, which will draw in a lot of people who will spend 5 bucks on a pdf.

3. Plastic robots.

4. The Dakka connection will get it talked about. Here, they have a captive audience, so to speak, while places like TMP and Warseer will want to talk about Dakka's awful game, bringing more eyes and more dollars to the campaign.

5. Plastic robots.

6. Two thirds of the minis aren't that bad. And they are already tooled in hard plastic! Checkmate, Mantic.

Did I mention they are making robots in hard plastic? Thematically and practically, genius.

Isn't like, 80% of Dakka under 21, though?

I don't get the impression that the majority here (outside all of us usual joes that seem to be in on these conversations to begin witn) have a ton of discretionary income to throw at KS projects.

I'd love to hear someone report back on the novels, however. I don't necessarily think having novels necessarily means "good background," as there are recent KS examples that had novels that ended up being really underwhelming.

Which recent KSs had novels? I know Mantic has one, which I have yet to read, and Sedition Wars had one which died quietly in the dark, but who else promised a novel?

WWX has a couple, for sure. (and mind you, I actually like WWX)

I believe Fallen Frontiers has some planned. I don't know that I'd compare them to Dakka Maelstrom because it would be unfair on a miniatures level.

There's another that I swear I'm forgetting.

Anyhoo. I hope they do well. I think, based on other KSes, they can probably safely expect $100k-$300k, which is certainly successful....but I'm not sure I'd expect it to go higher than that.

Where's Buzzsaw when we need him for some KS projections based on other similar projects?

Some more changes for me Blackwater Gulch - Savage Beasts campaign planned for June. Mechadrome still in August.

You can remove Bad Lands from the list if you want, I won't be able to get back to that until likely late next year, after all the new BWG sculpts are done.

The average video game player was 37 years old when accounting for consoles primarily. The people studying this changed their metrics recently to include phone/tablet/etc gamers and apparently it plunged down to 30.

But I'd be surprised if war gamers were that much younger, especially with how expensive a hobby it is (overly permissive parents aside).

20's to 30's? Probably not drowning in disposable income, but that's the glory of Kickstarter and other crowdfunding; you don't need to be rich. $1-20 adds up quickly when thousands of people participate, and a couple of 'big spenders' that can afford to drop 4 figures or more on a project can help it along as well.

The (highly self-selecting) poll in the Poll subforum peaks around 21-30, but the 5(?) to 20 range only makes up roughly 1/5th of the population. So actually you have that backwards; according to that at least, Dakka is ~80% 21 and over.

Though I don't put a ton of credence in such a thing, and I'd be curious if Dakka has ever run the stats, through a survey or some other measure.

Infernal from Wartorn Games is due to hit KS end of May according to the guys and gals I saw at Salute today.

35mm modern horror game, spec-ops against demons from what I gather. Had some impressive looking prints on show, not sure if they had any casts there too.

...and here's their facebook page, where it says May 29th launch....https://www.facebook.com/wartorngames

It is what it is. It'll be interesting to see how quickly B-Sieged passes it up on the 28th. An hour?

We probably should've accounted for having a prominent banner on a site where tens of thousands of potential backers might see it every day. >.>

It'll be interesting to see where the next 5 weeks and change take us.

Also, spec-ops versus Demons, eh? I'm intrigued. I think my group has more skirmish/miniature/quasi-miniature games than we know what to do with, but a horror/vs guys in power armour theme might be worth a second look, especially if the mechanics seem strong.

$50k funding level.

I'll start a thread when I get home if no one else has.

Reaper Bones 3 coming June 8th - http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/61459-reaper-bones-3-launching-june-8th/

Sounds like large minis galore and a good amount of terrain in this one (similar to the excellent Dragon's Don't Share ruins and the chronoscape Shipping Container).

20s & 30s, you definitely have money - that's when you're working, possibly single, probably without kids. At that age, people are buying 2 coffees a day, plus 2 drinks after work, maybe a pack of cigs. That's quite a chunk of money when you start to add it up.

There's a new KS that just started yesterday that might be of interest called Middara:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/succubuspublishing/middara?ref=category_popular

The designs seem to me like they're mainly anime-inspired.

One of these days the Judge Dredd KS will finish....

Maybe in 2020.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Bones 3 has been pushed back, new date TBD.

At the ReaperCon banquet where we announced this originally we had said that we were hoping for a target Launch date of June 8. We've had an amazing week of response and feedback, and one thing we're certain of is that we want to blow you away. So we're pushing that date back a bit now to get even more mind-blowing sculpts made, and to fit in even more things that you have been asking for. We'll have a formal announcement with a better date later, given our increased plans.

Hey Alex, thanks so much for linking to my ModCube project here! It's done funding now so can be updated how you've been doing it

I have to admit I was happy that Zombicide doesn't launch until tomorrow! I know it's a bit of a different crowd, but still, it's hard to compete with that behemoth

I'll work on it.

I figured with it being several pages down and nobody commenting that nobody was paying attention to it any more.
