After that they showed a couple more random titles then I saw nothing else until we got satellite tv and the original SciFi channel used to play anime movies on a Sunday night for 4-5 hours.
One of the first few I saw on there were Ninja Scrolls and Venus Wars which still remain guilty pleasures.
Oh yes, nightmare fuel during the early hours, courtesy of Channel 4! I remember others like Shadow Skill and Cyber Oedo 808 during those years.

I never got to experience much of Channel 4 - growing up our TV reception was always very spotty on it. A great shame as I missed most of Babalon 5 which back then was a very dark and gritty and serious sci-fi - esp when compared to Star Trek (at least until DS9 came along).
Of course if Channel 4 was only sometimes there Channel 5, when it came around, was mythological.

My into to anime was the same that of most children of the 80s and 90s. Toonami on cartoon network. DBZ, Gundam Wing. I remember staying up super late one night at a friends house during a sleepover to watch the finale of .hack//sign and then they premiered the first episode of Evangelion after it. I also remember the disappointment of not getting to see the fight against the first angel. It wasn't for another like 10 years before I finally watched Evangelion.
It was weird being a passive anime fan in my childhood but being super into it now, I go back to watch old classics and I'm like "why do I vaguely remember seeing this?"

My intro was with Thundercats and Voltron. I feel even older than you. Caught some Speed Racer reruns as well.

It really got up my nose that Channel 5 was showing First Blood on a regular basis but we couldn't get the reception! Grrr!!
Shame you missed Babs 5 on C4 because it made for awesome viewing after school. The bit where they declare independence of Earth was like mind blowing and then epic space battles broke out. Happy Days in Space!

It was popular enough I’d be surprised if it didn’t get another season. Been surprised before though (no game no life). If they do make more I hope the other three of “our” heroes get less useless. It’s a little ridiculous how weak they were at the end.

Right? I thought the whole point was that they were all super strong, just unwilling to work together. Instead, they just became idiots that didn't know how to fight.

I haven't read the light novel, but I do know that the Manga has its own continuity separate from the Light Novel, and that the Anime is based off the Light Novel, not the Manga.

Watching 7 Seeds from Netflix. Man this show is not good. I would call it horrible acting on the part of the characters, and just unrealistic behaviors and reactions to given situations. Half way thru the six episodes and I feel compelled to finish it though.

Pretty much all but 2 or 3 of Netflix’s original anime’s are pretty gakky. Lots of them are just advertisements for bad mobile games.

It’s weird because their non-anime animated series tend to be good. Voltron, She-Ra, and Dragon Prince are all quite enjoyable.

Probably because Netflix doesn't have much input in the anime series. They're not really theres. They just paid into the development so they could slap their name on it, and it kind of shows in the quality both why anyone would let Netflix slap "Netflix Original" on something that isn't a Netflix Original and why the production values are so consistently low (they couldn't find anyone else to give them money).
Kakegurui, Seven Deadly Sins, and Fate are the only animes they've been involved in that seemed to have any passion in them.

So right before you posted this. The guy next to me at work said "Hey check out 7 seeds on netflix. I binged it last night and it was awesome." First time I had ever heard of it, and now I've got two polar opposite opinions to sort out.

I don’t think this is too spoilery since it’s covered before the end of the second episode, but the set up for what’s going on is...
I Could forgive the horrible dumb premise if it wasn’t for the stupid and tone deaf reactions they have to any given situation. They’re just so dumb...

Dear god it's like some 12 year olds "oh so clever very original idea" they insist is completely original and isn't a rip off of Battle Royal at all. I think gouging my eyes out might be more entertaining.

Attack on Titan just wrapped up...finally revealing some things about the world. Pretty pleased with this show still.
Looks like S4 is go for the end of next year and will be the last season, even if the Manga keeps going.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.
New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

Four seasons for an anime is pretty good going. Although I lost interest in the later part of season one, there is no denying that 'Titan is a special show.

Honestly, mainly just the pacing and narrative coherence/consistency. Without those the show would be...awful, but they manage those so well that the rest of it just clicks. The way the show reveals the larger world a bit at a time has worked really well. The show also isnt afraid of killing people off, even if you've grown to really like them, which I like in stories where it makes sense.
Aside from the narrative elements, the horror and action elements are really well done, the visceral terror of a "fee fi fo fum" giant are pulled off fantastically.

Heck, my non-anime-watching boss actually likes AoT, since his kid got him to watch it.
I just watched the first episode of RahXephon since I found it on Prime. It's... interesting, so far.

It's basically NGE with more likable protagonists... but that's kind of the description of every NGE clone so it might not be helping much XD

I’ve watched the series twice thru. I can’t remember how it ends. I can remember few details of the story in general.

Can anyone recommend some good stuff I have missed over the last 10 years.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis |

The gems of the last decade or so you ask? Some of these might be a bit older, if only because I'm not sure if you mean that you watched GITSSAC ten years ago, or if it was literally the last "new" anime you watched.
Taking 10 years loosely, my top ten list sir;
Baccano!
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Tenga Toppa Guren Lagan (many memes will make sense to you)
Eureka Seven, do not watch the sequel it'll ruin everything
Psycho-Pass, season one only season two suuuuuuuuucccked (but the movie is pretty good)
Darker than Black, season one only season two suuuuuuuucccked
Mobile Suit Gundam OO (pronounced "Double Oh")
Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans (prepare your feels)
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works, also known as Unlimited Budget Works because the first two episodes were practically movies
I'm going to give a special shout out to Bakumon. It's an anime based on a manga about people who make manga with a romance story twist. It's a really great series and the anime covers the full length of the manga more or less over the course of its three seasons. It's made by the same guys who wrote Death Note, and takes a lot of inspiration from their professional experiences and history while still managing to be light hearted, fun, and bizarrely useful as a treatise on artistic integrity, vision, and passion. I think it's maybe the most criminally underrated (or at least, least talked about) series of my lifetime.
Also, if you like OVAs, Hellsing Ultimate, which fully adapts the manga with excellent animation (and can be followed by TFS' Hellsing Ultiamte: The Abridged Series which is pretty awesomely funny).

Thanks I think I even recognise a few of those, are there any movies you would recommend. I have less time these days to binge watch shows so movies can be more practical.
Based on a review I just bought sword of the stranger and will be watching that later.

Code Geass' 50 episodes were condensed into a movie trilogy... and it's actually really good. It even fixes some of the plot issues the series experienced in its second season retroactively. A few broader plot alterations, and they got a sequel movie called Lelouch of the Resurrection that follows their timeline of events that's pretty good too. There's also an OVA series for Ghost in the Shell called Ghost in the Shell: Arise. It's not as good as SAC, and reinvents some of the characters, but it was still good. If you liked Evangelion, the Rebuild of Evangelion films are okayish.
Some of the better movies of the last few years? Hmm. I don't watch as many anime movies but there are a few that come to mind;
Summer Wars (you might have seen this cause Toonami aired it with a few other films years ago)
Bakemono no Ko / Boy and Beast (This is my favorite of the films listed here, it's an amazing film)
Eiga Koe no Katachi / A Silent Voice (This one is on Netflix right now. It's really good)
Ōkami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki / Wolf Children Ame and Yuki (you will cry manly tears)
The Wind Rises (generally considered to be Hayao Miyazaki's magnum opus)
Mirai (I haven't seen it yet but it's supposed to be very good).
