Hey now, save all that shame until you actually have the book and read through it. That's my plan.

I'll attempt some of his techniques - without an airbrush because that's not central to his approach at all - and compare the results. The next day you'll probably see a Swap Shop thread by me with generous terms.

Really hope that there is some non-airbrush technique in there, considering my airbrush is a cheap knock-off (not a Iwata 9000+ with Carl Zeiss lense) and I definitely don't have preternatural airbrushing skills!

If not I guess I will at least be able to stare wistfully at some lovely miniature pictures..

You don't have to have airbrushing skills, just having an expensive airbrush does not translate into being a better painter either. He does use a fairly good combination of airbursh and brush, as well as explaining the reasons behind what he is doing. Most of his methods can be applied to the brush. Usually with the airbrush it is primer, base color, and some presade. After that almost everything else, including the details are usually done with a brush. There is no reason to need an expensive airbrush, just like painting with a brush it is all about technique that you have to learn with practice.

The main reason airbrushing tends to look magical compared to a brush really comes down to thinning your paint and light layers. With an airbrush this is easy to achieve because the paint needs to already be thinned, which means light layers over the model. You can do the same with a rattle-can but it is easier with an airbrush because of the control (even with cheap airbrushes). You can still mess it up if you put on thick layers. With a brush the same technique can be used, if you thin your paints properly and apply light layers, letting it dry before applying it then you can achieve the similar effect. A lot of beginners will follow tutorials to the paint techniques, understand the techniques but don't' achieve the same result because they paint straight from the bottle instead of thinning out. In my case I tend to sometimes get impatient.

I'll be ordering it for a few reasons.

First, while I'll never be able to paint as well as Angel, I do like reading painting tutorials to see if there's a technique I might actually be able to accomplish. And learning from the best is always good.

Second, there's going to be some great conversions in there, particularly the TAG pilot conversions and the contact girl custom sculpt bust, and I love seeing stuff like that.

Third, I really do like the Joan model. If I ever decide to do PanO (and it's tempted me more than once), I want that model.

The fact that it's just over $50 makes it a pretty cheap buy as well.

I wonder if this book will be going digital after such a short print run ?

What a laught, out of stock on the Corvus site before anybody could get a copy. Site crashed with the weight of people refreshing.

Disaster? Completely selling out the book via pre-order? Sounds like a resounding success to me... at least for Angel. and Congratulations to him for it.

Yes well done Angel and I`m a huge fan but its a disaster because there are thousands of Infinity fans feeling left out,no matter what spin you put on it.

Plus people were allowed to buy 3 books in one order which means we are going to see fleabay vultures re-selling the book for £100`s of pounds to devoted fans.

He did the book thing his way(and that's fine) just give the fans a chance and now either re-print it(knowing the huge demand) or even better make it digital

Fixed.

If it was sold out before anybody could get a copy, they couldn't have put any up for sale. People obviously got copies for it to sell out.

As a humorous aside, it appears that someone really wants me to get a copy. I watched the stock run down from the place I was going to order from, because financially I wasn't in the best place to pre-pay for it. Then the next day I got an email from my FLGS that they've reserved a copy for me. I could have ended up with 2 copies!

Hopefully the FLGS I ordered with has got a copy for me, I have no idea so far though (and suspect they don't either).

Logistics for this one is going to be fun I should imagine.

One thing I will say; The book apparently sold out within 30 seconds of going on sale on CB's site. If Angel doesn't order another print run (with or without the mini), he is a nutter (or.. maybe a secret millionaire or something! )

Ah. I'm not sure I would call that a disaster, but you do make a good point.

If enough people 'rabble-rabble' for an ebook, or kindle book-- since Amazon makes things pretty easy for self-publishing authors, I would hope that he would do it. As for the re-sellers....Hmmm, special ring in Hell and all that. I hope some of those who bought multiple copies intend to give them away as prizes at tournaments-- a good way to get people to your tournament, no? yeah, wishful thinking.

He needs the funds for Volume II. Why release a Volume I if there is not going to be a Volume II.

I would prefer an ebook at this point, since you could magnify the images etc, which would be a huge help.

Looks like my FLGS has at least 5-6 people pre-ordering a copy. Distributor apparently wasnt worried about getting that many but I guess we won't know until the box arrives.

Angel still does the more exceptional work by hand. Airbrushing is a way to get the base colours down and some pre-shading quickly and smoothly for the most part. So the book will have plenty of brushwork explanations.

Yeah...this could have been handled much better. I was unable to get a copy, which is really frustrating. I do hope they do a digital version as I'd like that at the very minimum....

So checked with FLGS, they might be able to get 8 in, I asked for my name to be put down for pre-order if they get them... I was the 9th person on the list. :L

What you need to do at this point then is to find the names of the other 8 people on the list, and then arrange for one of them to have an 'accident'.

I don't get this ? If all the 5500 books have gone where are they going to get stock from ? There are already lots of posts on the Infinity forums where people have pre ordered books and paid and are getting e-mails telling them the company was unable to get any books so here is your money back !!!

It usually means, just like the retailers, that they have a set of books that are distributed to them by a distributor. They may not have exact numbers of the books and as it is a limited run, there are always a chance that some orders may not get fulfilled. This happened to a degree with Operation Ice Storm, until they did a second run to make up for it (although it caused some slight delays). This just ensures they will sell what they get, when they know for sure what they are getting.

Artbook 1 IS still available around the place though. Some stores ordered extra copies in that didn't sell.

I've seen it around the place in Sydney at least.

Looks like Angel is going to be reprinting his book, which is good for everyone that missed it.

From his Facebook:

A Book That Helps Painters
First, I’d like to make it clear that while Corvus Belli and Vallejo are supporting this project, I have made all the decisions related to it. Please don’t direct your anger or frustration at them.
This book was my dream, but now it is my nightmare. Discussions, then criticisms, then insults…
When I started this project in 2013, I believed it would be a success, but no one else did. “A paint book, Angel? You’re crazy! You’re stupid! Hahaha!”. But I wanted to write it for my fans. I did market research, I studied my Facebook and blog statistics, I talked to stores, painters, companies, etc. I learned that selling more than 4,000 books would be very difficult. Nobody believed in this project. But I did.
I presented my project to Corvus Belli and Vallejo because I needed some help to sell the book, and they have the means to help me. They said “Yes!”, they trusted me and my idea. And so I decided to make 5,500 books – I didn’t think I would sell more than that.
I was afraid that if too many books didn’t sell, that Corvus Belli and Vallejo would be upset with me. So, during 2014, I advertised my project all over Facebook and my blog. Imagine my surprise when I began 2014 with 3,000 followers and I now have 8,700.
My mistake was underestimating my fans and followers. I didn’t expect this demand, and neither did Corvus Belli or Vallejo. As a result, many of my followers were not able to get a copy of my book, and that frustrates and saddens me.
This is a difficult decision because I decided on a “limited edition” of 5,500 copies because that’s what I could afford and, more importantly, what I thought would sell.
I’m stressed about this, I’m not happy. I re-watched my presentation video and I read the phrase “a book that helps painters”. That’s the spirit of my book. How could a book help painters if they can’t get a copy of it?
This has not been an easy decision, but I have decided to reprint this book. For those of you who have already ordered a copy, I hope you understand why I am making it available to more people. For those of you who have not yet ordered a copy, please be patient as I sort out the details.
I will post more information here as the second printing progresses.
I want to thank you all for your support. I hope this book truly helps all of you.

Well that is good, but I am also saddened that all the negativity from some has worn on him and I hope it doesn't embolden some to stir more trouble.
