Subject: Tyranid Warriors vs Zoanthropes?

Which is better?
It's a 1000 point NidZilla list I am doing, which has a cheap melee Flyrant, two Exocrines in my backfield with a Venomthrope parked near them, a Mawloc and 2x 5 infiltrating Genestealers there as a general distraction till my Flyrant and Mawloc reach the enemy deployment zone to start taking care of stuff.
I need a synapse creature for my two Exocrines at the back that keep firing those big blast markers / multiple S7 AP2 shots at BS4 after having stayed still to take care of enemy heavy infantry, light vehicles and MCs.
I can fit either 3 Warriors with a Barbed Strangler or 2 Zoanthropes in my list. Both are synapse creatures; both have ranged firepower that goes as far as 24" (S4 AP5 large blast pinning in the case of the Warriors, 2 S5 AP3 small blasts in the case of the Zoanthropes at +1BS)
Within 18", the Zoanthropes give me access to 2 BS4 S10 AP1 lance shots, while the 2 other Warriors dish out 6 S4 AP- shots at BS3.
When it comes to defence, the Zoanthropes have 4 wounds protected by 3++ inv., and the Warriors have 9 wounds protected by 3+ armor.
In close combat, the Warriors do a lot better than the Zoanthropes.
Lastly, the Warriors have objective secured, so in order to snatch an objective away from my deployment zone, the opponent either has to wipe them out or send in one of his own obsec troops.
Thoughts?

It's simple really. Zoanthropes get a save against S8+ weapons. Warriors are taken a model at a time against Melta, Krak missiles, Lascannons etc.. Zoanthropes atleast have a chance at doing something to save their life. 3 Wound models don't count for much if they are wounded on a 2+, no Armor Save that matters and everyone knows this trick to kill them fast. But, Warriors have their place. I constantly use them as flank units with 10-15 Termagants to take an objective or kill some small/elite unit on the side. Zoanthropes move with my Walking Tyrant as anti-tank units and anti-horde with the two kinds of Warp Blast. In your list, the Zoanthropes would make more sense since you don't have the gribblies for the Warriors to escort.

Isn't that a good thing Sharkoutofwata? If that Warrior Squad attracts some Krak or Lascannon fire in a *Nidzilla* list that would be positively lovely, because that expressly means those shots won't be going into the ''Zilla'' part of the list. Also, remember he said he has Venothropes, so he will be getting a 5+ cover save against these things, easily a 3+ with use of intervening cover.
On the other hand, what can the Zoanthrope do against back field deepstrikers or campers? First he has to manifest, then not be denied, then not scatter, then wound to do a significant amount of damage. And that is there only threat. Warriors on the other hand are a considerable melee threat against the likes of 5 Man assault squads or deepstriking Scions.
In other circumstances I'd say the Zoan, but in these ones the Warriors are better in everyway but providing warp charges.

I have the Tyrant as ML2 guy - if he has the pool all to himself he can get some powers off pretty reliably. Zoans throw 2 more dice into the pool, but now the Tyrant is sharing the pool with them.

Absolutely. Warriors make for a very effective backfield Synapse unit. If you're going to take them it's perhaps worth trying to get them to unlock something cool like Living Artillery or Bio-blast, but that's not essential. A mixed unit of Warriors with a Barbed Strangler (to reach out and get involved even when backfield), a vanilla Warrior to sponge damage and a single Warrior with Bonesword and Lashwhip to combat enemy infiltrators/deep strikers is a remarkably effective unit. You might even want to consider the Phodian Hive Warriors for it if you're feeling adventurous... (though they are perhaps a bit too heavy on the upgrades, and you'll have the urge to bring them forwards to use half of the options they have to take).

Two answers, as listed, I say Zoey...you forgot to consider the Power of the Hive Mind! (one roll, and Dominion). But I would also suggest add the Warriors, drop one Exocrene, and toss in a Brood of Biovors as "Living Artillery"
So it depends on where you go with it.
