To my friends in the dark corners of the historical sub thread,

I finally got around to painting the Warlord starter box that I bought so long ago and thought I'd post up about what I have going on.

I love warlord plastics!!!!

Another member of the design team studiously observes

Recently moved on to my Warlord Marines and finished the 4x2 beach head. Next in line are some Warlord Japanese that will become members of the SNLF as well as some dug out/ fighting hole pieces.

Thanks guys!

I can take some more pictures of the table in the morning in some natural light. I have several other generic tiles that go with it along with a 15mm fortified hill tile and everything I need to make a beach section complete with resin ect..

I'm almost done with some G.I.'s to square off with the Heer, I got a box of Warlord Marines in recently so I was able to snag some rolled up sleeves for variety. It's been nice to return to plastic kit bashing

Platoon Sgt, Platoon Commander, and some aid tagging along.

Well those terrain tiles are very inspiring. Good to see some quality 28mm terrain - Big P has been setting the bar very high on the 20mm level. Your canine colleague looks amazingly like some human players I've come across…

I like Warlord plastics too - it's the main reason I went for 28mm as part of getting back into historical gaming. But there's still a shortage of arms doing something other than holding weapons. Your minis look great - are you using mostly washes for shading?

Thanks man. Big P's table has certainly been a prime inspiration in getting my table up to speed. I nicked the idea of loose clump foliage which has had an incredible effect in my opinion.

I've been using a heavy dose of army painter strong shade after a base coat and some block painting then I go back and pick a few details out after they dry. And by heavy I mean HEAVY.

Clump foliage is a god send...

Just order loads as it has an odd ability to seemingly vanish into thin air.

Though that may be my two dogs and four old son that does it...

Dunno if you have an airbrush, but a guy I know has had great results spraying teddy bear fur to give it more depth.

The clump foliage has a pretty high attrition rate at my house as well. I read several tutorials on airbrushes and faux fur so I thought I could just replicate it with spray paint...You can't.

My missus has suggested dyeing the Teddy Bear fur first, something I have discussed with her when I was considering using it to do an entire board. You do need to shave it down first though for short grass.

I've considered that as well. I might rub some thinned paint in with latex gloves on some test pieces.

I love the GI's with the rolled up sleeves. Fantastic idea kitbashing the marine arms in there.

Thanks guys. Those rolled up sleeves went on there surprisingly well. I'm thinking about doing a pair on some Germans as I think they would pass just fine.

I like the Pacific stuff (especially the beach - nicely done). Needs some tanks though.

I think he meant these would be for the Normandy-themed Germans and Americans he posted photos of initially...

Its just a few bags of this stuff. Dump it on the board and shape as needed. No gluing necessary.

My box of Warlord late war infantry have been coming along nicely. They have been a lot of fun to paint and model. Im hoping to get them to a TO platoon so I can try out Chain of Command at this small local con that we are taking Battlegroup to. I'm interested in the patrol marker mechanic as I find that the omniscient view of enemy positions and strenghts is one of the biggest shortcomings of wargames.

I have a pdf of CoC but every time I read a few pages into it my head explodes.

I agree - that's a very nice group of minis, and the SPW looks lovely. What paints are you using? Nice to see the right version of the SdKfz 251 painted in this scheme (Warlord are still pushing their earlier version as appropriate for these late war troops). I think it's time to order some of the Grenadiers, as well as some Warlord StuGs.

Thanks for the compliments guys. The paints are all Vallejo.

Is the warlord stug better than the rubicon?

Nice work on the figs and excellent terrain. I wouldn't worry about not groking CoC yet. Most rulesets are learnable more easily when someone else is teaching/involved. If you still don't enjoy or understand the rules it's not a big deal as there are so many great rulesets for 20-28mm ww2.
