So, here it is. The pages with Soulgrinder and Defiler close to each other. I just found the way it's positioned in the book amusing. Is like: "Oki, here's a unit that's good...and here's defiler in case you still somehow own a model of one and don't want it to count as a soulgrinder".

It also lowers the hope of defiler being fixed ruleswise as it's allready present in a book that's not just a direct csm supplement.

Depending on whether they update daemonkin along with CSM/CD.

Well, on the other hand they can leave one in the book as is. Like they did with inquisition vehicles.

It's still got IWND, soulblaze, +1 attack and its gun has the 2D6-pick-the-highest anti-armor capability over the soulgrinder which is nice.

The Soul Grinder can buy +1 attack and the ordnance weapon, +1 AV is better then IWND and soul blaze is not a good rule.

Even with out all that stuff, the Soul Grinder is just 70 points cheaper.

Hmm youre kinda right. The Defiler has: Base 3, +1 for a free powerfist (replaces reaper-autocannon), +1 for power flail (extra points)

The Soulgrinder has base 4 attacks, and +1 if it takes the sword.

Youre right that the default Khorne Soulgrinder is 60 points cheaper than the Defiler but most people take the Slaanesh + Baleful torrent or the Nurgle + Phlegm Bombardment (half the range of the battle cannon) configuration, in both cases the points difference becomes 15-25 lower than the Defiler, and equal if you've given him the hideously expensive sword.

But do you get +1 for power flail? It's not a specialist's weapon while fists (crab has two) are specialist's weapons.

Every additional close combat weapon on a walker gives it +1 attack, regardless if it is specialist or not.

If a walker is armed with 2 or more mellee weapons it gets +1 attack for each mellee weapon after the first.

Specialist's weapon:
A model fighting with this weapon doesn't recieve +1 attack unless both weapons are Specialist's

There's nothing that says walkers ignore specialist's rule.

Nurgle + Phlegm Bombardment

Do people honestly still take these?

Plague hulks do the same job for 30 points less.
