Doomsday (the name alone is just awesome!)

There's a definite bias towards either engines or sheer power there...

Gauntlet of Might.

Of all the cards I parted with when I sold my set, the Beta Gauntlets signed by the artist was the hardest to let go off. Almost kept one.

Coolest card I know.



Also vampire dragon, because why not.

Niv-Mizzet (that one should really be obvious)

Faceless butcher for the nice kill + have a creature mix

Hull breach for awesome utility.

Cone of flames because somehow there are always 3 good targets.

Chainer's edict and innocent blood, because screw your shrouded/hexproof silliness

Goblin sharpshooter and Gelectrode because pinging and untapping is awesome.

This guy was the inspiration for my first deck. I'm pretty sure Red/Blue is my favorite color combination.

Now for the two cards that would be the foundation of my first modern deck, should I get around to that.

Timetwister for me. I had a whole deck built around using it. The goal was to eventually remove all of your cards from the game, so that when I cast it for the win, you had nothing to shuffle back together. Managed to actually accomplish that once.

Land Destruction cards when MTG first started of.

Also Alladin was a fun to play
Howling Mines were good coming into play.

Skirk Firemarshal. Tap 5 untapped goblins, deal 10 damage to everyone/thing. Throw a couple Mogg Maniacs in, and watch your opponents pop!

Yeah, I know. But I always thought the unhinged sets include some of the most brilliant work in MTG.

Right there with ya, Whembly. I got out just after the release of 4th Edition. If I still had all the cards I had then...well, that would be my car, my credit card, and new siding on the house all paid off.

My first EDH commander, and my best deck to boot. I've played a Zombie deck since 2002, and he was my chance to get a Zombie Tribal EDH deck. He also introduced me to the eternal glory that is Stax.

Damn! Is that black-bordered power?

Colour me impressed! My own power is "only" Unlimited and lacks a Mox Pearl. Currently on the lookout for one (as well as 3 more Workshops to complete my Vintage base set), as given the lack of interest you get on savings accounts these days, cards (and other rare collector's items) like that are a much better investment.

But damn those things have gotten expensive fast! A few years ago I bought my Sapphire for 200-odd euro plus some cards, now a Mox pearl will set me back almost twice that!

Sorry to tell you, but Brainstorm isn't modern legal. Cards reprinted in duel decks and Conspiracy aren't modern legal even though they have the 8th edition frame. Kinda sucks, but if duel deck cards were legal it would be a bit ridiculous. (I.E Regrowth would be legal, as would Dark Ritual).

The Dimir Gatecrash Intro Deck was the first MTG thing I bought. This thing is still being used in my Modern Mill deck.

That makes me sad.

And seriously dampers my enthusiasm for starting modern.

Yeah, cantrips in Modern are actually quite limited. You have your pick of Serum Visions, Peek, Gitaxian Probe, Telling Time, and Sleight of Hand. You could get another $700 dollars together and use Brainstorm in Legacy though.
