Favored power weapon?
Power Maul - wounding on 2s and ignoring armor of most medium to light infantry
Power Sword - AP3 at initiative is nice
Power Axe - ignore the armor of EVERYTHING, and +1S to boot. Just avoid challenges
Power lance - AP3, at initiative, and +1S, but only on charge. Otherwise AP4.

iirc you get +1 s ap3 only when you charge yourself. And s: user ap4 when you're getting charged regardless of counter-attack.

But MOK bikers with lances could look awesome! Some medieval conversions of guyz in plate armor on daemonic steeds with blood-tainted rusting lances

The sword is a good weapon for duellists at sergeant/champion level, because two squad leader models facing off generally have enough attacks to kill one another if they have AP3 weapons. 3+ saves are common enough for this to be a good default choice. The biggest problem with the power sword is that even allowing for the extra attack, as long as you have at least 2 attacks on your profile it's better to take a single lightning claw instead.


The axe, by comparison, is the best squad-massacring weapon. So it's best for a non-character with a power weapon - chosen, vanguard, or whatever, especially if they only have 1 attack on their profile, making a power fist largely useless. It's a less useful weapon in a challenge unless you have either a 2+ armour save or a decent invulnerable

Yep, statistically, LC is starting to be a bit better if you have 2 base attacks. However, take note that the more attacks you have - the more reliably you'll deal at least one wound. Calculations will be harder here, so take it as you wish I think it's still about equal for 2 base attacks.

Of course though hammers + sheilds is fun on termies.

I like the maul against xenos and daemons. Marines need the axe to be cut down.
The sword is just too plain to be interesting.

Honestly I have been having decent results with a maul the more I use wolf priests. I still have a sill idea for TWC, where they all have power mauls and have a wulfen stone IC with them for S8 rending charges.

Then again, I am pretty sure that wolf claws are STILL the better call.

Yeah the sword is such a niche weapon for taking out 3+ save guys, and a single LC does that job so much better.

When fighting things without a 3+ save, or when the 3+ is backed up by an invuln, the maul outperforms the sword by such a clear margin.

Counter attack doesn't give it the strength and ap bonus for charging if that is what you are saying.

Power axe by far, only downside is going last. Personally I would always go with the power fist though. The ability to deal with vehicles, MCs, 2s to wound most likely, and a possibility of an instant-kill is way better IMO.

My computer beat me at chess, but I sure beat it at kick-boxing!

Power Klaws all over the place or/and a pair of Killsaws on a Meganob will be my goto swiss army knife. Considering all the AP values of what's being listed I'll be happy for the 2+ save if going last...

My math hammer always comes back to Wolf claws being the better bet for every day use. You lose the ap3 on the second round of combat, and wolf claws have shred to add more rends, and keep wounding.
I really want to try a wulfen stone beat down squad with power mauls. A whole bunch of TWC with S8 ap4 rending attacks on the charge? Hell yes! Instagib all those pesky T4 multiwound models that are rarely used in game!

True Wolf Claws are better than Lances even with them being cheaper.
I think Lances would be much better if they got a +1I in the change. This you don't see them more even though I have had great luck with them.
