Given that a large portion (if not the majority from what I've seen/heard lately) of W40K players despise Eldar and their new codex, I feel like this is a bad time to "come out of the Eldar closet". They Eldar models have really grown on me over the past month or so. I'm a Tau player myself (and in the middle of dipping into Warmahordes), but I would love to work up a Tau/Eldar list. Has anyone here had an experience fielding such a list? If so, how did it work out for you? What models were you using? Is it just too cheesy to attempt to pull something like that now even if cheese is very much not intended?

"TauDar" used to be the best cheese in the game. Until people realised you didn't need Tau for that.
Its more common than you'd think, but now they aren't battle brothers.

That's a shame. That could have made for some excellent combinations. I use SW as allies on occasion right now, but I'd like to switch it up a bit and get some Eldar in the mix.

A secret fan of the Eldar, and you're ready to admit it just now that the new awesome Codex has dropped, how fortunate for you. I think that's the bandwagon I hear playing.

Ehh, who cares it isn't like there is ever a bad time to start a new codex. Especially ones that are consistently top tier. He should just be asking the people in his area how they would feel. Not us.

I'm sorry but I don't see Salamanders every being really good unless they get Str D Flamers and/or AP2. Sorry.

Eldar have some truly outstanding models, they have some of the coolest looking stuff GW makes. The new jetbikes in particular are amazing.
But really, your local gaming group is what matters most. If they have no problems with the new Eldar book, you're fine. If they do, you might have issues.

Oh I remember that...went a full year (until SW's came out and everyone ran "counts as" SW's) without ever seeing an SM army that did not include Vulkan for free twin linked meltas and flamers.

About a month ago a friend of mine was cleaning out his storage and came across all of his old old Eldar models, and naturally, sold them off to me. I was quite excited, it was a good haul of the old ugly guardians, 2 farseers, and 5-6 of Howling Banshees, Dark reapers, warp spiders, 3 shining spears, and swooping hawks. Once I heard there was a new codex I snagged some cheap units online, anticipating they would be buffed in some way, so I got a vyper, war walker, falcon, and waveserpent, which makes me pretty close to having that new detachment! Thankfully I have a slight disdain for wraith units so I never got any of those, plus my money is going towards Skitarii.
It certainly seems like a bad time to be eldar, but for me, someone who has always wanted to play aspects warriors and tanks, it seems like it may just be a good time show off a way to not play the cheese. Plus as a bonus the changes to aspect warriors are actually pretty nice, so they are quite playable these days and will combo well with my large collection of Dark Eldar.
The only people I truly feel for in the mix are the actual Iyanden fans who have been painstakingly painting yellow models all these years to have it ultra cheesified (the Worst Color To Paint, EVER).

As much as people complain; people will adapt.
I wouldn't turn down a game with someone spamming wraiths or bikes.
I'd sure as heck tailor my own against it if I knew ahead of time what kind of list it would be; but that's only because I only like to lose so much.

The Striking Scorpions are some of my favourite miniatures in 40k. I might be starting Eldar too. No jetbikes for me though, those things look ugly (shining spears is much better).

"These aren't the White Scars, they're the Adaptive Snowmen, my own chapter. Why do they keep changing tactics every new codex, well they're called the Adaptive Snowmen for a reason."
On a more serious note, Vaktathi nailed it. The Internet can kind of give you an idea of the response, but you'll have to talk to your group to figure out how much of a hassle you'll get from running the army.

I have played tau off and on for 8 years.
Eldar off and on 7.
Try this tau combo:
HQ XV8 - pr/fb, Irid, PEN, VTR 2 drone ablative suckers
2XV8s, pr/fb and their vre buddy - CCN, MSS
As an allied unit they will smoke most of what they shoot at.
Eldar - ignore the haters. Ignore the Striking Scorpions. While I love my S-Scorp models, they still are not the killiest in the book. Run the Dire Avenger Shrine and Aspect Host formation, and yes, buy two boxes of jetbikes for your token 2 troops. They are not ridiculous. Fragile, but fast.
Simple foot soldiers to have fun with. Well, really, good footers,
I do not know the Utah (SLC?) scene. Go. Play. See what the locals say.
