Mission and Deployment
Primary Mission: Crusade
Secondary Mission: Maelstrom (Objectives = Turn Number)
Tertiary Mission: First Blood, Slay the Warlord, Linebreaker
Deployment: Vanguard Strike
Set Up
Tyranids won the roll to grow to set up first and deployed along the edge of the deoployment zone, with Venomthropes spaced out to give Shrouded to the entire army (Mucolids in Deepstrike). The Toxicrene was set up nearest to the Tyranid short board edge, whilst the flyign monstrous creatures where grouped from the Tyranid long board edge to about 60% of the way across the deployment zone.
The Eldar set up spread out at broad coherency throughout their deployment zone, with the Farseers in large bike squads, Crimson Hunters in reserve.
Game Summary
Turn 1
The Tyrandis went first and flew forward, getting in to range. Fire from the tyranids destroyed a 10 man bike squad and the War Lord. All of the Flyrants Psychic Screams were Denied
The Eldar bikes spread out, casting Guide and Prescience on two squads of bikes whilst casting Fortune on the squad containing the Farseer. They then opened frie on a hive tyrant, managing to reduce it to 1 wound. The Warlocks turbo bossted onto an objective
Maelstrom 1:1
Turn 2
The Hive Crones left combat airspace, vector striking small units of Jetbikes on their way out to cause break checks, the Hive tyrants circled round to shoot at several smaller units, rather than the fortuned target. Two squads were wiped out, although the Warlocks passed all of their saves. A third small unit failed its break test, sucessfully passing a Maelstrom objective and the Toxicrene moved onto an objective marker, claiming another.
The broken unit regrouped. The Crimson Death arrived and, between all 3 planes, killed a Hive Tyrant (gaining the point for Big Game Hunter). The Eldar failed to cast Fortune, but managed to get off Guide, using scatter lasers to take 2 wounds off another tyrant, which failed its grounding test, but was not wounded in the fall. The warloks took another objective.
Maelstrom 3:3
Turn 3
The Crones returned, ganging up with a Tyrant to make one Crimson Hunter jink and kill another with haywire missiles. The grounded tyrant shot and charged the large squad of bikes and farseer whilst the venomthropes assaulted the Warlock unit (two making it into combat). The remaining tyrant destroyed a small bike squad with shooting. In combat the venomthropes failed to wound the warlocks and were cut down. The Tyrant kileld several bikes and took no further wounds, winning the combat and breaking the unit (thanks to Shadows reducing the Farseers leadership), he then failed to run them down, leaving him exposed on the ground. The Maelstrom objectives were to take an objective (suceeded by the Toxicrene), to kill the warlord (already achieved) and to harness the Warp (suceeded with Dominon on a tyrant)
The jinking, damaged hunter left combat airspace, whilst the other moved up to shoot a tyrant The remaining scatter bikes killed the grounded tyrant and a mucolid spore that was advancing upon them, the Crimson Hunter managed to bring the Tyrant it targetted down to 1 wound. Maelstrom achieved: Big Game Hunter, Ascendancy.
Maelstrom 7:8
Turn 4
A hive tyrant finally managed to get a bead on the warlocks, killing 3, however they passed their break test in spite of shadows. The crones forced the Crimson hunter to Jink and reduced it to 1 hull point. Meanwhile the remaining tyrant finished off the Farseers squad with shooting.
At this point the Eldar player had 5 models left, 2 badly damaged Crimson Hunters, 2 warlocks and an individual scatter bike. Agaisnt 3 crones and 2 (wounded) tyrants there was no way this force could win, so the game was called here.

It took a tournament level Tyranid list (with six fething flyers in it) to beat a mid-tier Eldar one.
That's kind of scary.

I wouldn't call Hypertoxic Node tournament tier... That Nids list is good, probably upper tier, but not tournament tier honestly. The point is though, that Flyrants do well vs Eldar (although it lacked a Wraithknight, that would hardly have killed the Flyrants) and so supports the idea that the Meta can survive the introduction of Eldar. Eldar are good, but there are still plenty of things they will struggle to deal with.
Congrats to the Nids, anything against Eldar is a good win!

Shadows in the Warp is a pretty legit counter to jetbike spam. LD 5 will see bikes run off the board like crazy. However, take that same Nid list against a 4-5 Wraithknight list and watch the bugs evaporate.

Informative report with an extreme list of Nids. I would be curious to see the WK's and WG in action vs. a list like this.

That the Tyranids are still fething broken and 7th edition is stupidly in favor of Flying Monstrous Creatures? I have been expecting that.

Needs a wraithknight to be a true test imo. Also pretty sure Fighter Ace is once per army thing not once per detachment (could be copy paste error in the post though and I could be mistaking 6ed rules for the new ones).
Thanks for the batrep though, keep em coming.

I was referring more to having a whole bunch of scatter-bikes on the board. I still think I'll have more trouble with that then the tyranid but I don't know, haven't played against either style list yet. I enjoyed seeing a current edition army fight the new eldar spamming bikes, admittedly without wraithknights, but still useful. I would have voted for the eldar army given the choice so I like to be proven wrong.
I'm not entirely convinced more wraithknights would have helped compared to the same points in bikes, but each to their own.

Stand on points since Flyrants don't really do a whole lot of damage to them I guess? Pray for 6's on the D chart?
Also the Eldar army has 3 HQ choices...

Interesting report. That's a lot of Jetbikes! Thank the Emperor you got first turn. That seems to be important against Eldar so far - get first turn. This is also interesting as a Jetbike spam army might have trouble surviving an alpha strike. It's kind of an unbalanced army-list - a I go first I win, you go first you win kind of list.

A solid win but not the best eldar list either. Going first was a big advantage.

Both lists had minor mistakes in it.
For Tyranids, you can only take 1 Fighter Ace per army.
For Eldar, the Warlock council takes up 1 HQ slot. It is no longer a "slotless" HQ option. Thus, the Eldar player had 3 HQ's in a CAD. Now there is an easy work-around for this, and that is to run 3 detachments - Eldar CAD, Crimson Death formation and Eldar allies - but that is assuming it is ok to run 3 detachments and to self-ally.

It's ok but not great. Remember, Shadows only affects psykers. As normal jetbikes are not psykers, they can always use their regular LD.
Dozer Blades wrote:A solid win but not the best eldar list either. Going first was a big advantage.
Against flyrant-spam, it is basically a coin-flip. Whoever gets the alpha-strike first has the advantage. Usually in this case, that means whoever goes 1st.

Pretty good batrep, Nids did good and its not even the most optimal tourney list. Eldar player could bring WGs and maybe 1 WK instead of the flyers, but still its not really going to help much against that many Nid flyers.

1. Your not going to see more than 1 WK due to major tourney formats restrictions. Casual friendly games yes, but good for them casual non-tourney attending players lol
2. How is 4-5 WK(1200-1500 pts invested) going to deal with 4-5 flyrants in a 1850 pt game? GL snap firing 2 D weapons.

Wraithknights can actually outlast Flyrants. It takes ~162 BS4 TL-BL Devourer shots to kill one Wraithknight on average. That's more than two turns of shooting from 5 Flyrants. All focused on one model. 3 WK's is 870 points and puts out 6 shots a turn, which means one hit per turn on average and one dead or jinking Flyrant.

Yeah, the Eldar list was not correct. Shuffling some points around could have given a CaD + Seer Council on bikes, but would require an HQ for the CaD. /shrug
Were Mysterious Objectives rolled? 40 twin-linked S6 shots with Skyfire could be a thing.

Yeah as others have said, 4 Wraithknights are vastly superior to 5 Flyrants. They don't have to even shoot the dang things. Just hustle over to the objectives, sit on them, and wait for you to land. They take the Flyrants lunch money. They could potentially not fire a single gun all game long and still win.
