Being available to preorder tomorrow and released next week, are the new Imperial Knights. It is a 'new' plastic kit costing £95 for those who dont know, £10 more than the old one. I say new in apostrophes cos its the old kit with an extra sprue. So what do you get for an extra £10? A few more heads, tidbits, new ranged weapon called the Avenger Gatling Cannon (oversized minigun) and a melee weapon called the Thunderstrike Gauntlet (oversized Power Fist) You also get some missiles and AA guns to go on top, and that it.

This makes 3 (yes 3) new types of Knight. These are:
Knight Warden- Avenger Gatling Cannon, Thunderstrike Gauntlet
Knight Gallant- Reaper Chainsword, Thunderstrike Gauntlet (CC)
Knight Crusader- Avenger Gatling Cannon and the good old Rapid-fire Battle Cannon (ranged)

I like the new varients, brings variety to the Knights. The Gatling Cannon is a definite MEQ killer, being S6 AP3 Heavy 12. Oh, and rending. I think the melee one is cool, but that might not be as common in a competitive scene. And with the addition of being able to take interceptor AA guns, Knights will be even more fearsome.

So what are your thoughts?

If you can't believe in yourself, believe in me! Believe in the Dakka who believes in you!

I personally think these new knights give that extra umph to the models.

I was kind of thinking about getting one, but now it is even more tempting. Especially the Crusader. Not only is called the Crusader (BLACK TEMPLAR!!) but it has a Gatling Cannon as well as the battle cannon.

Oh and the roof mounted weaponry just makes it even better. Those missile launchers look pretty amazing and then the ability to add interceptor and skyfire with the autocannon is also impressive.

So these new variants come with a price bump, and of course a new codex. what a ripoff. I hate the constant rulebook output as well as the prices they charge for these rulebooks. The rules for all these variants can easily be printed on a 10 page booklet and slid in with the model itself. in the box. And 10 pages will also give you some room for some art and fluff.

Knight Gallant seems like a good Transport-killer, with both Hurl and a useful anti-infantry option with the Reaper Chainsword.

Force the infantry to disembark by hurling their Transports at their buddies, then kill the little bastards by stomping them underfoot/cutting them to ribbons/punching them/firing missiles at them.

The new kit actually makes ALL 5 variant of the Knights

SInce even the Errant and Paladin will be able to upgrade their stubber to melta and buy a carapace gun, I see this as a very good release (and I have hated Knights since they were released, so that is saying something).

Unless the Gallant is dirt cheap compared to the rest, I don't see it being worth it. It losses a main gun to gain +1 attack in CC...lame.

Biggest winner is the Crusader. SuperHeavies already have decent CC, so having more shooting is great

Yep, with a few magnents and one of these guys, you should be able to set up any possible combination of any of the 5 variants with minimal effort. Which is pretty darn cool!

you cant find the rules becasue they are ONLY available in that "exclusive" web bundle. hahah WOW.. even i call foul on this.

But agian releasing knights agian is an obvious money grab. I had hoped they would at least expand it to have chaos knights and various other factions "knight sized" units or something.

that was my thought.... the amount of "desperate allies" knights i have seen around already makes it seem like almost everyone hs them anyway.

this book would have made sense if it added something for various armies rather than just 2 more knights..

Ill just have fun scratch building my own knights now that there is more than just the Pali and Errant.

I wonder.... Can the Crusader go full on gung-ho and wield duel Gatling Cannons or Battle Cannons?

Or with the melee one. Both fists or both chainswords?
Should be fun to build.

Lots of negativity in here.

Personally I appreciate more variation with Imperial Knights, and I think the new weapon configurations look pretty sweet.

There is no 40k, there is only Apocalypse. Now get buying, Tom Kirby needs a boosted revenue report so he can convince the board to drop 40k production to only Space Marines and Imperial Knights.

Coming from a guy who buys an inordinate amount of GW stuff -- at least one of every single 40k new release this year -- I am not a big fan. The original Imperial Knight kit was certainly a wonder of plastic modelling in terms of all the articulation and fit, the pistons were cool, the technical aspect was impressive, but I was not a fan of the turtle-shell look. And the posability was really limited. I was really hoping for an all new knight.

That being said, $17-$18 for extra for a new sprue that builds 3 new distinct variants, including a new head, and builds everything the old 2 is cool. I still don't think I'm going to jump, though. That WK are still 25% cheaper at the base cost bugs me, too, and gives me less gaming incentive to build one. Maybe if the final rules are really awesome I might be tempted, who knows; otherwise, for the fluff, I'll likely use the old knight, and to be competitive, I'm more likely to ally in a farseer, scatterbikes, and a wraithknight for the 500 points it will probably cost to get one big, buffed IK.

Oh, yes, and the book: the old book was the single most disappointing and least-used GW book I've ever purchased (7 pages of content... really?). Hell, since I've quit Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play, I've cracked open that original print book more than Codex IK. Will I buy the new Codex IK? Bah, probably. It had better be a big improvement over the last one. Though I don't see how it could be worse!

Sorry to be negative I am more excited about the brushes.

I don't get it.

Are people NOT just buying the 4$ white dwarfs with the rules in them and sticking those in a binder? All you have to do after that is look for the rest of the rules to leak online and you're good...

The rules are generally not all in the White Dwarf- I believe with this Knight release you only get the rules for one variant. But inevitably there is some important rules content in the book itself. So people either buy it or rip it, or I guess maybe hand-write the rules in. But for a hobby as persnickety as 40k, people generally want the "best" and most legal option.

Of course that still doesn't change the fact that this last $41 book lasted one year.

THIS should have been the first Imperial Knights release.

Not the one in 2014.

But GW being GW, they couldnt keep the gak together and just released the first 2 variants prematurely with its own codex.

Then 1 year later we get 3 more variants.

5 variants is still on the slim side for a codex release, but I genuinely feel bad for all the people who already have an Imperial Knight codex that they can now proceed to throw in the bin.

Still hate that you can't pose the legs. And now there's more variants you'll just have more different weapons in the same goddamn pose. And there's a new book meaning your 25 quid book you bought what, a year ago? Is out of date already.

We already had a thread started earlier but I'll go ahead and post in this newer one instead.

I'm liking the look of the new models.
Sad that I just bought the "old codex" within the last couple months.
Anxious to see more details such as possible formations or options. Hopefully the leaked relics arent the only ones.

Are the point prices similar, or did GW use this as an opportunity to tone down the knights?

We'll they probably all be costing another 40 or so points, with those nifty new missle racks on top. Maybe another 10 or so for the melta upgrades.

Would you consider them going up 50 points in cost, but getting another ranged attack, toned down ?

I imagine the though process behind this release was something along the lines of:

Knights sold well and the annual is coming up.

Let's make more Knights, who cares if it's only been a year, we really need to boost sales.

But it's only limited to 100 idi-customers, so let's get that pay-to-win chugging along!
