Next time, ask if you can proxy units. When he says yes, proxy an unbound list made completely of AX-1-0 Tiger Sharks, and laugh as your army ignores every pie-plate and CC attack he has.

Turn about is fair play, after all.

I'd play him. If the opponent is a nice guy, why not let him have the fun, especially if I brought my minis to the store and he is the only one available. In addition to that, the favor might come around when I bring in my superheavies or a HH list to try out.

Don't try to "win" the game in the traditional sense, but rather set your own objectives, like "try to kill a knight or two" and see what happens. We've had a campaign in our club, where in the course of the campaign we had understrength or "garrison" units pitted against full strength 2.000-point armies. While those 800-ish point formations never stood a chance of holding the campaign tile, it was really satisfying when that single LasCan on the table managed to take out an overconfident tank, 4x it's value, which would be missed for the rest of the campaign.

But most 2000 points lists would wipe out 800pts in a single turn. If the 2k point player went first, the whole game for the 800pts player would consist of deploying. Specialy on a smal 4x4 table. One wouldn't even be able to deploy out of range.

id like to see how much killing can be done by a CSM, sisters or otherwise 2k army in 1 round of shooting. on a proper table with actual terrain. as someone that plays on a 6x4 and uses plenty of terrain... its a lot harder to wipe out 800 pts in 1 round of shooting...
as to 40k on a 4x4... what? nope how do you deploy 4000pts AND terrain on that?

as to the main topic. hell yeah id play against that list. how id win i dont know, but id damn well try. and if not id be doing all i can to win on points if i cant kill them off the table

Is this sarcasm?

When the opponent has a grand total of 5 models to play with, and takes large chunks out of your army each turn, it shouldn't last too long.

No sarcasm. The truth is my opponent was constantly looking up the rules for his various titans, but I'm not trying to complain about that, as I know how hard it is to keep track of special rules, weapon profiles, and the like.

Only mentioned "grueling" because I'd have been much more contented if I'd been tabled in 1 or 2 rounds rather than 4

People might better know the titan rules and their weapon profiles if people stopped being such grumps about playing against them. Most people I know learn the game not by just reading the book but by playing with their stuff over and over until they just know and have it memorized. Same thing would work for titans. Now that the wraithknight is a gargantuan creature I have memorized the stomp table after playing with him for several games.

if it was an official mode... absolutely.

things is we always use objectives.. that army cant win. Also at that poin level just swarm them with CC.

i did game using a reaver and warhound. both were blown up by turn 2. They look scary and are devastating in the first turn but they suck up too much of the army.

I think this would have been your best option. I also find it odd that someone would think this an acceptable list to run against a stranger in a club/FLGS. Almost seems like the guy needed some attention or affirmation.

"Look at how big my [innuendo]TITAN[/innuendo] is! Tis a mighty, bulbous [innuendo]TITAN[/innuendo]! My [innuendo]TITAN'S[/innuendo] girth and length doth bring all the lasses hither!"

I'd play the guy. The reaver is an amazing model, as are the knights and I'd love to see what 3000 points of my orks could do to them. Even if I suffered a crushing defeat, I'd have fun fighting that.

The only thing getting in the way of that fight is the fact that I usually only have about 2000 points with me. If I knew in advance that such an army would be showing up, I'd definitely bring my stompa!

As for the guy compensating for something... Really? I don't know, that wasn't my first thought maybe because titans are Gork-damned amazing models and have some of the coolest lore behind them too. I guess there's something wrong with me that I don't immediately think anybody with bigger toys than me must have a smaller peepee.

Unfortunately thats how many people feel people who play titans are like. They think we are all just "Pay to Win" players. Never do they stop to think that maybe we like our collection to be rounded out and maybe we would like to play with those big models we spent so much time and money on. Of course because they believe it should be apocalypse only (opinions) you will very rarely get to field it outside of apocalypse and when you do play apocalypse they complain because you brought too many models. There is just no winning with some people.

Tell me what is the difference for your opponent, between losing to and eldar player who likes to play with his titan , because he likes him and an eldar player that likes to use his titan, because it is a very good titan?

It all depends on player attitude.

If the player in question is competitive and despises losing, he will hate both eldar players.

If the player in question is competitive but enjoys a challenge, he might enjoy playing against both players. In this case, a lot will depend on the player's army and his playstyle. Perhaps he'll go for a Maelstrom game and ignore the titan entirely and win on VPs.

If the player in question is casual, it all depends on what he enjoys. He might dislike both eldar players after playing them, or he might dislike eldar titans. He might even have fun being the underdog and setting goals for himself, like keeping his favorite unit alive throughout the battle.

In the end, if you're gonna have a negative attitude, you'll have every single game of 40K - it won't matter if there's a titan on the other side or not. You'll complain about your bad dice rolls and the opponent's good ones. If there's a specific unit involved, it's just a lot easier to blame that one unit and the player that fielded it for 'breaking the game.'

A loss isn't the end of the world.

But hey, what's my opinion worth anyway? I'm a filthy, titan-loving small peepee person because I own a stompa.

I would, but only if we made the objectives non-standard. I'm under the impression that that the current ruleset for objectives is designed around skirmishes between 1500pt armies, and hasn't changed much since it first appeared.

For example, if his goal was to kill the "football" unit, which I would write secretly on a piece of paper, before that football unit made it to his deployment zone, would at least be halfway interesting vs a standard shoot-em-up sort of objective.

Actions define a person.

Now this would've been fun, and that's basically what I told him after the game, that if he ever wanted to play me with his Titans again, he should let me borrow one of his Titans and some Knights, and let's duke it out that way. He said he had multiple Titans and 10 total Knight scratch builds, so its an actual possibility.
