2. No oppai.
Why even bother?

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |

Technically it is (in the sense that it's on Steam for purchase ). The rest is just speculation that the HD Remake will someday find it's way onto PC itself along side many other FF Remakes.

Then Tifa talks about their childhood and he remembers being a whiny kid before he goes back to being a whiny adult. Yep. Its sad. People like this are so closed-minded that they cannot comprehend people enjoying things that they don't.
I enjoy PC games. I enjoy console games. They each do things better than the other imho and both serve a purpose in my gaming life. I left the platform-wars smack talk on the playground when I finished primary school. Sad to see some can't get past that stage in their life.

And I'll take an angry black man as a main character over Cloud any day of the week. Squall was the same thing as Cloud but at least he changed around the middle of CD3.
What I'm really curious about is the Trap scene. How the heck they are gonna do that scene is something I'm dying with curiosity. Full HD Sexy Trap Cloud?

I can agree with this. Though I stopped playing 8s whine fest when a regular dude in a trench coat cut Odin in half. I decided FF could screw off right then and there.

I think that alone would get me to buy the game.
That being said I'm in the "what I really want it the FFIV HD remake HD remake" crowd. The FFIV HD remake on the DS was the first FF game I played, so it hold special meaning to me.

Disagree. Even in the late 1990s, we were being bombarded by media with (for the time) high production values. FFVII stood way out at the time, to me.
I'm really, really hard pressed to think of a game that came before FF7 with comparable production values on a console. Even if FF7 wasn't first-to-market with lots of high quality CG cutscenes, it was the first one marketed into mainstream consciousnesses. It was certainly the first multi-disc spectacle extravaganza that got wide enough release that it could be a community experience.

Barrett really was that bad. It was embarrassing. Tifa in the 3D rendered sequences was ridiculous.
Like multiple people said, I enjoyed FFVI the most. I would love an HD update using cell animated using the original designs. I had a horrible experience playing FFVII on the computer due to game breaking bugs and the stupid minigames. Did not like the Materia system and strongly disliked that I was now limited to a party of 3 characters.
So this is a pass for me.

I'll keep my eye on this, but what I really want is some way to replay FFIX. That one was really fun for me, but I got killed by the stupid "surprise!" last boss, and then my disc got scratched, and I never finished it. And it niggles at me like an open sore. Just checked on steam and it looks like it's still not available on PC. Sigh. Edit: Oh and this game was a huge deal for me as a teenager, I thought it was amazeballs. Was less enthusiastic about 8 (didn't like any of the characters) but really enjoyed 6 and 9 when I got to play them. Once they started having voice actors, the series just died for me. Didn't help that the protagonist of X was such a gormless tool.

Yeah, that whole last of the Ancients thing and seeing her mother in professor Gasts computer was nothing. Not to mention that she saves the entire world. Nope, she did nothing. Red Xiii was alright. Aeris' death just becomes another thing to get revenge on Sephiroth for. Also, remember that because of Jenovas cells, Cloud absorbed Zacks memories and possibly also emotions. So that would affect his feelings about Aeris. Please quote some of Cloud's whining. At the very beginning he literally doesn't care, he just wants to get paid. When Sephiroth is introduced, he wants to track him down to get revenge for Nibelheim. When Aeris dies he further wants to kill him. He has his whole breakdown then is in a comatose state. After being brought back he doesn't whine and instead sets about defeating Sephiroth and stopping Meteor once and for all. I find that the whole "Cloud is whiny" thing is often repeated but largely unsupported by actual dialogue from the game. Advent Children yeah, original game, no.

I always imagined that as more waving his arms around rather than pounding his chest. I mean, his arm was a metal gun, hitting yourself in the chest with that could break some ribs

Well you had whatever experience you had, it was yours. That said I'm not sure that means FF7 has any particular relationship with a teenage audience that is especially unique as compared to games in general.

But it wasn't only my experience. FFVII was met with near-universal acclaim at its release and has continued to receive praise ever since, which is why the remake is a big deal. This being the internet, there is no shortage of folks who will therefore step forward to blandly pronounce it nothing special, very likely with a reference to (the admittedly wonderful) FFIII/VI. And maybe even, as here, they will go so far as to explain that the only reason anyone liked FFVII in the first place is because they were confused by all the pretty shapes and colors. What can I say? Obviously not everyone feels the same way about this game. All I can suggest is, FFVII did make a truly exceptional impact on the folks who played it in the late 90s.

Yes, Final Fantasy VII did make a significant impact on the video game industry. And because of its historical impact, I can see the draw of a remake. But I would not be surprised if they make some changes.
Question: How would you feel if they changed Barret's dialog in the remake? Or if Tifa was changed to look like her Advent Children incarnation? Would it significantly change the game for you?

Sure, it'd push the rating of the game up but his swearing (along with Cids) is part of his character. I imagine Tifa is going to be closer to her Advent Children look than the original game, in terms of *ahem* size, but with the original outfit (miniskirt, braces, white top). I'm fine with that, if you want to see Tifa with her original assets then there is plenty of art out there on the internet for it I read somewhere that there will be some changes to the story/gameplay. As long as they keep out the majority of the Crisis Core stuff (which I felt added unnecessary characters and changed Sephiroths realisation in the Nibelheim reactor for the worse) and keep in the more lighthearted moments (crossdressing, Mr. Dolphin, Shinra march in Junon), I think it should be OK.

Nah, not interested. I enjoyed back in the day but the thing is that I know how this story ends. I don't need to trek though it all again when I already know how things play out. You're not going to change or improve upon the memories I made when I first played it so why take the time? Why notplay something new instead?

I like TVTropes as a creative resource, and for some of the funnier articles there. But it's had a really bad influence on discussion of media, because you can just say "Oh, this character is just [article name], and then take it as a given that because you could sum something up, that means it's bad and you have won the argument without actually arguing.
