Barret was just a angry black man. Hes a racist caricature. Literally.

That's a pretty serious oversimplification. I think you're really selling Barret short as a character here.

I like TVTropes as a creative resource, and for some of the funnier articles there. But it's had a really bad influence on discussion of media, because you can just say "Oh, this character is just [article name], and then take it as a given that because you could sum something up, that means it's bad and you have won the argument without actually arguing.

I agree. And it's not that Barret doesn't fit some of the characteristics of the "angry black man" trope, but that he is so much more than that. He's a leader of AVALANCHE. He's a devoted father to an adopted daughter. He's a brave fighter who puts his life on the line for his friends, and continually returns to the fight, when he could just as easily justify staying behind to take care of Marlene, but he chooses to do the more difficult thing.

Is he a perfectly designed and realized character? No. But to sum him up as "just an angry black man" and a "racist caricature" is an egregious denial of the depth of his actual character.

At the beginning of the game I could see people thinking he's a bit 2 dimensional. After meeting Dyne in Corel prison, though? No, that's when you really start to get into Barrets character.

In an interview with VentureBeat, Final Fantasy director Tetsuya Nomura has stated that he'd like to create more remakes of the series' titles. Said Nomura regarding the fact that Final Fantasy VII is being remade, and the first four titles in the series have also been remade: "I’ve been working with Mr. [Yoshinori] Kitase since Final Fantasy V, and we’ve noticed that V and VI are missing. That bothers me. How come we skipped over those two?" Would you like to see them be remade as well? Comment below. - See more at: http://www.gamnesia.com/news/nomura-wants-to-remake-final-fantasy-v-and-vi#.VY2ImPlViko

The Laws of Thermodynamics:
1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.
