Looks like if you want the full army lists and such you'll have to buy the rulebook. This is just an appetizer.
Also, kind of strange that the gamer's edition is so much more expensive in the states compared to England. Does mantic have a poor US distributor?

Yep from the KS update
There will be a complete rulebook as a PDF sent to you guys (backers) in the next couple of weeks. Nobody else will be able to get this full version digitally for free.

It's their game. I don't expect to get things for free but the game that I've been selling and the ethos that mantic had last edition is what I've been using to bring people to the game. I feel like I've been telling untruths to my friends and I don't like feeling silly.
IMO I think they shouldn't of talked about free to download rules. And a certain other games fanatics (friendly fanatics) have been teasing me over the different approaches used by the gaming companies involved.
I guess I will have to wait for my pre-order. Originally the free rules got me playing KoW. I then went and bought the v1 book. All collectors in my experience would get the book.

I'll buy the book, and I still have the beta workbooks so I still have it all.

I love the blurb on there being rules for playing at smaller games. That's perfect for Skirmish and thank you for including that folks at Mantic..

Yeah, not the greatest idea... I couldve understood limiting magic items and scenarios, but the lists shouldve been complete. Its pretty stupid to promise free rules and then keep essential parts behind a paywall... Particularly when it comes to the cool stuff. No elf king on dragon? No drakons? No treeherders? Those are the most interesting pieces of the elf list, and they didnt include them... :/
Just glad I saved the beta stuff.

The free download rules for V1 did not have all the magic items either BTW.
Yeah, the text on the download page clearly states
"Inside these documents you will find all of the core rules. To allow you to try the rules, we've also supplied large extracts from each Force List for you to sample the different units and heroes. More will follow as new armies are released."

For me the change from v1 to V2 leaves a strong bad taste. It is a trend reflected on several kings of war groups I am a member of. These sites are almost universally positive and judging by the negative responses means that I am not alone in feeling this was a extremely poor move by mantic.

Oh man, that's a bummer. I paid for the rulebook (the package, so hardback, paperback, and tokens) but it won't arrive until August...
Luckily, it looks like it's the same as the previous documents, but still a shame as I was looking forward to reading the full rules =/
Edit: Could someone clarify, is it just the army lists and magic items that are missing entries, but the rules themselves are complete?

The rules are complete.
The complete army lists are here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nhZLDFOHUXC2MCA6NwYQWr0HF2mSyvEWIlNH4oCtBeQ/htmlview#gid=1243412207
It's in a spreadsheet format, but they are all there. This was the final Beta version of the armies. I doubt if there were any big changes between those lists and what will be in the printed rule book.
If you want the minor factions that will not even be in the rule book when it's published, it's here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XgQY5vVHs_V19N_2lsrpk59SIF9hi6_KDBqkmyitRro/edit#gid=812440539
Those will be worked on and updated before they are released at a later date.

I was expecting the full lists. I think it's only the extra scenarios and magic artefacts not in the main rules.
Ronnie is saying they are adding units into the lists as they do model reveals over the coming weeks. Sounds like miscommunication from Mantic to not make this clear.

Its a good name for a hedge wizard. My first DnD character was a hedge wizard, delusional and thought he was a real wizard. Ended up opening up a portal for demons on accident. Although his name was Eugene instead of something cool haha.

Yeah, I'm not gonna lie. I heard free rules and figured "what the heck!" Then I started reading over everything and started getting really excited for the pdf rules to be emailed out, and now I find out that they're incomplete, so I can't play the game with what I already have.
This kinda took the wind out of my sails. I was all prepped to order the rule book, but just wanted to see the rules first before making the commitment and now I see a sly "bait and switch" esque tactic here where I was promised one thing and then delivered something slightly different. Now I'm a bit more hesitant to buy into the game because I'm wondering if there's gonna be something else missing in the future...

Well the "rules" part is complete with the exception of the magic artefacts and all the scenarios. It's the army lists which only have a selection of the units in them.
I agree they they have put them all out though.

My firends and I always came up with some fun names. One of my favorites was a Wild Mage named Zot Wyzo. Did the magic artifacts change significantly from WIP7?

the artefacts should be the same as at the end of the beta testing. I don't think anything changed after that.

I do like the rules and will probably purchase the full book eventually.
My impression however was that a full version of the rules would be available freely for those subscribed to the newsletter. (I still have not gotten any e-mail from the newsletter. Neither a link to the rules or even a confirmation that I'm added)
Hopefully this does not squander too much of the goodwill coming Mantics way now in the wake of AoS.
