AoS has made a splash though, and these games aren't quite so niche as they once were...

The Guardian are super-good with keeping up with geek news and presenting it in a way that's accessible for non-geeks. Their videogame articles can be some of the best around.

That article is obviously written by someone who is invested in GW products but is trying to write neutrally. Probably a hobbyist who wants to show off the game.
You can tell by the way the author keeps accidentally assuming knowledge of 40k things.

Eh compared to the usual ridiculously biased crap we see posted on BoLS it's pretty good.
Though he probably should have used a picture of AoS being played instead of 40k.
Big credit for remembering new players have to buy modelling tools, brushes, paints, etc. So many people forget about those costs.
