If I'm reading the KoW 2e rules correctly, you never remove individual models from a unit, and you buy units as set block sizes. For example, an orc horde would always be 250x100mm. Is there any particular reason that you couldn't play with lots of 6mm orc minis glued to a 250x100mm base? I have access to a lot of 6mm historical miniatures, it wouldn't be too hard to rebase them.

No reason at all, I've seen pics of 6mm KoW (using the same footprints) and it looks great!

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

6mm minis from Microworlds are popular for this very purpose, and I have some 15mm historicals I'm eventally going to knock out some purpose made movement trays for to field as KoM

That's actually a really smart idea. If the people I know weren't already owners of plenty of 28mm GW and Wargods minis, I'd be tempted to do KoW in 6mm. $10 for a troop/regiment - depending on how many minis you want on a stand - would be great.

Yup, and a lot of people use 6mm and 10mm on smaller bases and use CM instead of Inches. so a 100x40mm "Troop" standard size, use 50mmx20mm etc

Easy way to get massive games on small tables

Yeah, I'll have 2 28mm armies once I'm done building my AoS/KoW armies on round bases. But I can easily see myself grabbing a couple of 6mm armies and doing them on 1/2 sized bases. This makes building extra armies fairly easy so I can get games in with friends. Also saves a ton of space and cash for a secondary (or even tertiary) game.

I use 6mm models on smaller bases for my fantasy army. I find 6mm/10mm/15mm have the best fantasy models out there. I settled on 6mm because micro world nailed it.

But 10mm has some cool stuff too (and 15mm).

I do advise reducing the base size or you will be using hundreds of models for a unit.

That's the idea

I hadn't seen 10mm before, but it looks like a good compromise between 6mm and 15mm. I like how cheap 6mm, but you do lose almost all detail on the models (at which point it's more like an abstract wargame, rather than the more cinematic look you get with large models).

Found this image on a German blog (Schmok Blog) about KoW in 6mm:

I'm going to be making at least 4 races of armies for home games in 15mm scale, mostly using minis for 3 armies of Dark Elves, Wood Elves and Orcs/Gobbos from Splintered Light Miniatures, and probably at least an "Empire" human army using the humans from Ral Partha Europe's Demonworld line. I want a WHFB feel, but in a scale I can paint faster in the time I have free from the new baby.

All 2.0 rules will be read as normal, but with all inch measurements becoming centimeters.

For example, something along the lines of this for a Twilight Kin army. Each set of minis below is mounted with three figures on a 25x50mm cavalry base. Each such base will be the equivalent of a "troop" for KoW, and will be combined on movement trays in ranks of 2 bases for regiments, and a 2x2 grid for Hordes. Individual figures will be on something like a custom 15mm square of card, and war machines and monsters will be on 25mm square bases.

I could use actual 15mm figures ranked like KoW, but I am being frugal and it also gives a smaller army feel of dozens not hundreds. I may actually go with 2 Cavalry on a base, not three. It isn't as cramped, and Splintered Light sells Cav in packs of 6, so I would get three bases that way instead of two.

The benefit of 15mm scale is space-saving while retaining good detail, and the ability to get a decent 700 starter point army for 30 bucks.

These look great, and the way you've worked out basing seems pretty good as well.

Thanks. (Though they are not my pics, they are from two companies that sell these minis) they are based that way for theMighty Armies/Hordes of the Things games, but it seemed to me they worked out perfect like that for KoW.

Whats great is that you can get 12 minis (so 4 troops/2 regs) for 8 dollars US, and larger stuff to use for things like Forest Shamblers/Cavalry for 12 dollars for 6 figures. So not at all too bad, even if you are like me and have to buy/paint everything for both sides of a game to happen :(

That is obviously the way to go. Cram a few 28mm Regiment and Horde bases with 6mm models and you're gonna have an impressive looking army!

Not gonna lie. I'd be tempted to do that. Or maybe with 10mm models. That way it was tournament legal but would look super impressive and I could paint it a bit faster and sloppier than 28mm models.

I've been wanting to do something like that since I saw it done in a Pike & Shotte game. Huge blocks of 10mm Swiss pikemen, with all minis painted in different colours.

Sight for sore eyes for sure.

Trying to do this and convince friends to play during lunch. Beats MTG for sure... and cheaper.

I'd have to get both armies, so it's on the back burner for now.

Our break room has 2x3 tables, perfect.

Playing: Droids (Legion), Starks (ASOIAF), BB2
Working on: Starks (ASOIAF), Twilight Kin (KoW). Droids (Legion)

This is a great idea. I've finally finished a 1600 point Ogre army but have very few people to play with. Maybe I'll get 2 or 3 6mm armies of my own so i can introduce people to the game!

EDIT: And Microworld has orgres too. Definitely going to pick up 2-3 beginner armies for (100 dollars?! THAT PRICE IS INSANE!) Not even a dent in my paycheque! Good thing its payday tomorrow!

Ordered some custom sized bases and some 6mm and 10mm models today. I'm going to check out the scale and see which I like best and then probably build 2 starter armies at the half scale and then if I want to use them at larger events I just make enough bases at that point to ramp it up to fit the appropriate base size.

Infantry will be 50mmx20mm for a troop and 50mmx40mm for a regiment. So 2 bases for a mini-game regiment and 8 bases for a standard sized game regiment. Gonna test it out and see if it's feasible
