On the subject of the game itself, one idea I had for a demo game at wargames shows was a time travel crossover game. The playing area would be divided into multiple sections, with some sections being the same place, but in each others' past and future - actions in the past would affect the future location.

That's where the idea stalled (it was also hampered by a lack of miniatures for Marty and Doc Brown or Bill and Ted), but I still think there's the core of an idea there.

Alternatively, I thought we could run a "Chase"-style Doctor Who scenario. Not on our own table - this would move through the hall, taking place on the other game tables. There's plenty of scope to come up with a game idea that's not just "Daleks, Cybermen and UNIT shooting at each other".

Further article posted yesterday regarding the release format. The article also states it's going to be a new rule system but could be a misunderstanding.

http://www.kasterborous.com/2015/08/doctor-miniatures-game-announced-warlord-games/

The company will produce a starter game as well as a hardback book detailing instructions for how to defeat Doctor Who‘s foes. There will be a new game system devised to fit into the Doctor Who universe and to allow the existing characters to work to the best effect. John Stallard, managing director or Warlord Games, said that he expects Cybermen and Daleks to be the most popular figurines. “You can’t beat a Dalek,” he added.

Work started recently on the figurines and Mr Stallard said that he hopes the first games should be ready in a few months. They have reportedly started sculpting the first models, commencing with ‘the bad guys’ and once these have been approved by the BBC they can start on the figures of all 12 Doctors confirmed for the set.

Does this mean the War Doctor isn't included as an option? Since hearing about this he was the one model I wanted to get.

I think he will be included but just doesn't appear in the count as he isn't an officially numbered doctor (and some fans seem to get very agitated when he is given a number). I have a feeling he won't appear in the first wave of releases but will be released within the first year.

Those are both really fun ideas. Obviously the second one requires the agreement of the show organisers and the other games where you want to be able to time travel.

Speaking of Doctor WHo popping up in unexpected places, I saw the Tardis on top of a storage company building near the Hoover Building on the Western Avenue in west London recently.

Those are pretty great! I was just wondering the other day if anything was happening with this game,

Now come on Warlord, you know we're all just here for the Daleks, show us the Daleks!

That's... Disappointing. Martha and Wilfred look ok, but I have no idea whose photo they were looking at when they sculpted the Doctor.

It's a decent enough sculpt for a generic human... But it's just some random guy dressed as the 10th Doctor.

It's weird Martha and Wilfred look immediately recognisable maybe some sort of lightness thing since David Tennant quite a big actor now, they're not allowed to use his exact likeness? Or maybe it's Marvel related?

To be fair, Martha is recognisable from her hair and clothing... You can't really see her face all that well in that pic.

People don't have copyright of their faces.

It's hard to judge from the small size of the photos -- though in fairness they are "lifesize" -- but his face looks a bit static. David Tennant was one of the more jumping about gurning type of doctors and often wore specs. This looks like a bloke feeling a bit glum.

There are several nice Not Doctor Who figures by Heresy Miniatures.

Crooked Dice also does really nice ones, even better than Heresy's minis in my humble opinion.

There is the whole legal concept of "right of publicity", but I know for a fact that action figures exist for the 10th Doctor so the BBC obviously gets permission in their employment contracts to make merchandise of their actors.

There are some associated rights in various degree and it's a jungle with BBC having perhaps a claim to designing the clothing setup, etc. but Warlord are the official range anyway, I thought. But it's not easy to cram a lot of facial detail into a little blob the size of the head of a match.

I shall take comfort from the fact that worse things happen at sea.

I'm not a lawyer but yes, it is possible to have the rights to do a comic/toy etc but NOT the likeness of the actors.

IIRC that's why the characters in the Real Ghostbusters cartoon were so stylized, they had the right to do the Ghostbusters but not the likeness of Dan Akorid, Bill Murry etc.

I'm actually thinking the bulk of the problem is the hair... The face isn't actually that far off (just a little wide), but the hair is just all wrong.

Painting on all three in that pic is fantastic, though.

IIRC the Prodos AVP kickstarter mess of a project had the same quirk. The backers funded a "Dutch" figure but it was the character with a big bionic arm from an old 1990's videogame and not the same named Arnold Schwarzeneggar character from the first movie.

And I'm still curious as to what kind of game this will actually turn out to be too...

Huh. If you try to view from their US store, you get an error message saying that they only have a UK license. This game might be hard to get.

Yes. People have been asking questions about this for several days on the Warlord Games forum but so far no one from the company has bothered to reply. Very frustrating.

That 10th Doctor is miserable. I like the rest of the miniatures shown quite a bit though. Can't wait for plastic Daleks.
